“Music reaches the unreachable and touches the untouchable. It possesses an undeniable ability to express any emotion imaginable. Music leaves an everlasting imprint on the hearts and souls of all people. In its melody is carried, an incomparable cultural bond, insurmountable by race or ethnic differences. It’s like water, pure and freely flowing, in every pin that rights, hand that plays, voice that sings, ear that hears. I can’t fathom in my wildest dream my life, without music.”Born in his purpose to Richard and Ozera Nichols, Sr., in Birmingham Alabama, Nikeland Donte’ Nichols was birthed with music inside of him. At an early age his mother, a music teacher, and accomplished opera singer, in her own right, knew that her son was gifted to sing. She began teaching him the basic concepts of music and training his voice. Being the son of a Pastor, his training was put into practice by leading praise and worship, and singing duets with his mother during weekly services. As he grew older Nikeland started to travel with his father around the country singing at revivals and conferences.Listening to various artists such as, The Winans, Donnie Hathaway, Luther Vandross, and Donnie McClurkin, he began to develop his own style of singing. Embracing the gift that God had given him, he started to sing with different groups and choirs around Alabama. While attending John S. Shaw High School, Nikeland was assistant choral director for the John S. Shaw Symphonic Choir. After graduating high school, he received a music scholarship to Alabama A&M University, Normal, Alabama, were he studied classical and operatic training. Under the tutelage of Richard F. Tucker, director of the Alabama A&M University Choir, Nikeland rose to new vocal heights. During his college tinnier he performed lead roles in such operas as Porgy and Bess and Carmen. Doors began to open up for him and he started to receive calls to do background vocals for different artists. From then on there was no doubt in his mind that his purpose was to sing.Nikeland commenced to tap into a more creative side of music and went past just sing and embarked upon sharpening his craft of writing and arranging. He has written and arranged for artist such as, Kyle Bynoe and Praise, The University of Akron’s Gospel Choir, Will Smith presents True Worship, and Anointed Praise. Nikeland has also performed and shared the stage with the likes of, John P. Kee and New Life, Hezekiah Walker and LFT Choir, Ruben Studdard, Byrone Cage, Kirk Franklin, Dottie Peoples, Luther Barnes, Natalie Wilson and SOP, Smokie Norful, Deitrick Haddon, Kim Burrell, Trin-I-Tee 5:7, Kurt Carr, Tonex, Beverly Crawford, Anthony Faulkner, Israel and New Breed, James Fortune, Karen Clark-Sheard, and Bishop T.D. His music is electrifying and his voice is captivating.“More than money, houses, cars, or any other material possessions that I might attain in this life, I pray to leave an imprint on the souls and hearts of people. I pray that people be changed. I pray to leave a legacy for my children, Malcolm, William, and Donovan. That imprint, that legacy is Music.”
