About Me

Daniel Was Born in London, of St. Lucian parentage and was first introduced to the steel pans while in school at the age of thirteen. He has since performed in many parts of the world including Northern Europe, where he participated in the Malmo Festival of Water and in Sweden, The Freiburg Jazz Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival, The St. Lucia Jazz Festival and The Brighton Festival.Daniel Louis has toured throughout many countries performing on the island of Madeira, Tunisiaand and Senegal in Africa, in the Middle East, Israel, the Emirates in Bahrain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Qatar and the Far East in Hong Kong. He is familiar with the London jazz scene, the Caribbean circuit and has shared the platform with such luminaries as Courtney Pine, USA Sax player Ronnie Laws (Always There), USA Drummer Clifford Jarvis, The Great Clark Terry, The Great George Benson and the Great Bass player Marcus Miller. Daniel is also co-founder of a Jazz funk group Double Vision, which toured all over England and performed live on Londons Jazz FM radio station. Daniel is also co-founder of the steel pan group Pan Tonic Orchestra. Daniel has played with the British Airways Groovers, Glissando Steel Band, Mangrove Steel Band and has done a great deal of cabaret work with groups such as The Tony Charles Steel Combos in every leading Hotel in England and abroad. Influences: Len (Boggse) Sharp Miles Davis in the Charley Parker days and way way after all the people in Miles' great bands.... Milt Jackson, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Cannonball Adderly was so great and Jhon Colrtane's chord changes keep me on my toes,Ernest Raglin, Georg Benson, Herbi Hancock, Courtney Pine, Clifford Jarvis, Ralf Mackdonadl Freddie Hubad, Dennis Brown. My musical style incorporates different eras I started off with Calypso and Reggae then Soul, Funk, RnB, Pop, Bossa Nova, Classical Music, Jazz Funk then the Jazz Standards and Caribbean Jazz which I have performed with my band. So there you go!
Sounds Like: ..Daniel has achieved a fresh direction on this his debut album 'Bluse J@zz Lypso'. I first met Daniel in 1987 performing with a jazz funk outfit; I remember being impressed with his playing at the time so I went to him afterwards to give support. This CD is a fine example of his dedication, skill and artistry in performing the steel pan in a jazz setting... Courtney Pine
