New York, NY – November 2007 – Travessia is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by artist Shanan Campanaro entitled “Majesty.” Born in 1977 California, Shanan Campanaro is best-known for her fluid, organic works that fuse the realm of the conscious with the subconscious. These works go through a process of layering to build mesmerizing, free-flowing images that seem to follow closely and allow unlimited access to artist’s mind patterns. The drawings are distinguished by vivid color and microscopic detail, many infused with a melancholic beauty. “Majesty,” a series of large-scale works on paper - on which fluid ink splashes and cascades - will be punctuated by brightly colored drawings. As if it’s one’s psychological evaluation, the inkblot patterns gives viewers different perspective; for some, it invokes a smashed dead bird and for some, the dark spot reveals the lurking clown weltered in the strokes. The dynamics of the drawings are so empowering that they give you serenity of mind. After graduating St. Martins Collage of Art and Design, London with honors, Shanan Campanaro moved to New York and has lived here since 2003. She received four major grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts and has presented work at NY studio Gallery, Art Gotham, the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival Exhibition; 291 Gallery, St. Martins Degree Show Exhibition, Freud’s Gallery, Lethalby Gallery in London, U.K., and the Andrew Weiss Gallery in Beverly Hills CA. She holds a BFA with honors from the Central St, Martins College of Art and Design in London, England. Travessia, located at 176 Stanton Street, is a leading gallery and boutique that is constantly evolving, which allows artists to transform the space time and time again. Shanan Campanaro’s exhibition will run from November 9th through December 22nd. Part of gallery’s wall will be covered with special wallpaper that Shanan created especially for this show.
