About Me

I don't know why I bother checking this site. I have four friends, one of whom is the ellusive 'Tom' (and I have a sneaking suspicion that he might be employed by the myspace people, so...) And really, how can I expect the other three to carry the burden of my lame-o site? Thus, this is more a lament than an 'about me' section. One day, when more time/desire comes my way, I will jot down a few words about me, which you, in turn, might read. Which will, in turn, fill you with a burning desire to write me a quick missive about the turning colours of the leaves on the trees or about your lunchtime indigestion. One day.But for now, let's not hold our collective breath.

My Interests

Music:

hello ECLECTIC! these days really getting into Imogen Heap, Inara Jones, Regina Spektor, Kate Havnevik (thanks Jen!!!)... my father's 1987 recording of Rhapsody in Blue (from a concert with the VSO) just blows my mind (even though it's from a live, outdoor concert), Lhasa, Ani Difranco, the Wailing Jennys, Jean Leloup, Ron Sexsmith, ol' faithful Leonard Cohen (saw him live back in May and he's still just got 'it'), Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan singing 'Lullabye of Birdland, ' the occasional Metric and Broken Social Scene songs... and then, of course, there's Barbara Bonney, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Cecilia Bartoli, Renee Fleming, Sumi Jo (the sheer agility of her instrument is AWEsome!), Mathias Goerne, James Taylor (one of the only tenors who doesn't make me cringe!), Daniel Taylor...

Movies:

currently Garden State, Before Sunrise/set, We Don't Live Here Anymore (though, it will dash any dreams of functional family life), Bullets Over Broadway, l'Auberge espagnole, Strictly Ballroom, The Squid and the Whale

Television:

I am a strict one-hour/week Grey's Anatomy watcher. Let's just say I identify.

Books:

anything Billy Collins, La dame aux camelias - Alexandre Dumas (fils), Unless - Carol Shields, Everything is Illuminated - Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close- J.S. Foer, The Salterton Trilogy - Robertson Davies, anything Wislawa Szymborska, La casa de Bernarda Alba - Federico Garcia Lorca, most Tennessee Williams plays, anything e.e. cummings, Elizabeth Bishop, Charles Bukowski, and most things (especially 'The Captain's Verses') Pablo Neruda, Catcher in the Rye, Confederacy of Dunces... just finished Margaret Atwood's 'Penelopiad' - simultaneously reminded me of my like and dislike of feminist lit. which is a good thing, i think.
