If you want to know about me, check out the blog about what I've been up to.But in the meantime, here are my plans. During this summer I am again working at the world renown Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory. Last year I spent my summer helping end world hunger through creating sustainable fish tank prototypes for Haiti, living on a 128 foot tall schooner sailing 800 miles of the Gulf of Maine studying cetaceans and marine mammals in their natural habitat, and helping Raquel Sussman with her research to find a preventative cure for cancer. This year I returned to the laboratory, not as an intern, but as Raquel Sussman's personal assistant. By the end of the summer, and under Raquel's instructions, I will be the first person to determine the cellular point of embryological developmental at which mitochondria divide in zebrafish. This has never been done before, and has huge implications within the science community for determining the earliest stage in human embryological development where potentials for disease, carcinogen risk, genetic defection, and chemical imbalance can be detected, as well as many other important uses. But I still go to raves. I still stick my hands in the dogfish tank at work to pet the sharks swimming by. I still bartend. I hope to go to Thailand to visit friends this spring. I like boys who make funny noises. I saw the glass slides of all the parasites in raw fish, and immediately went out for sushi with my classmates. In fact, I used to be a sushi chef and it's my favorite food, consisting 90% of my diet. By the end of the summer, I hope to have a school of glow in the dark fish that I have transfected with bioluminescent plasmids containing artificial codes of DNA. Although I hate working with the glass needles in the laboratory, needles freak me out. (Don't worry, transfection doesn't hurt fish, they are only a cluster of cells at that point.) I have an associate degree in psychology and am working on a degree in biology. I am a part of LEAF. I play five instruments. I read. I think for myself. I don't know exactly where I'm going, but people will damn well remember where I've been.Haha I found this on the net: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=DorothyPretty Accurate:

Music:

Jack Johnson, G Love, Moe., AK1200, Venetian Snares, Moby, Matisyahu, Jackson Wetherbee, Ben Harper, Blue Man Group, Aphex Twin, Koop, Jurassic 5, Fiona Apple, The Foxymorons, Captain Lava Lamp, Katie and Annie, Richard Wiley, Entrain, Bassnectar, Boards Of Canada, Dispatch, Asian Dub Foundation, Erin Mckeown, Ani Difranco, U.N.K.L.E., Thievery Corporation, Howie Day, The Weathermen, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oasis, (some) Dave Matthews, Nick Drake, Sara Leketa, Phish, Bob Marley and Sublime of corse, The Gorillaz, live, anything laid back or unusual. All I need is live music to keep me sane, it's something that brings you back to yourself when you didn't even realise how far you have gotten.

Movies:

The Shawshank Redemption, Mona Lisa Smile, Pleasantville, Smoke Signals, The Cell, A River Runs Through It, Fight Club, Outside Providance, The Goonies, Fried Green Tomatoes, tons of others.

Television:

I don't really watch TV or movies much, so I'm going to rant about art here instead. My favorite painters are Jack Vettriano, Vladimir Kush, Picasso in all his crazy brushstrokes and lithographs, Dali in all his arrogance, and Henri Le Sidaner in all the beauty of his talent. Personally my favorite media are pastels(first and foremost), charcoals, print making, and good old fashioned graphite. I love reading and write often, but I wish I had more time to dedicate to getting my hands dirty either with field work for research(give it time) or through using pastels. Oil paints are wonderful as well, although I don't use mine very often. I stretch a mean canvas though. Instead of watching TV, make some art. Read a book. Play some music, or learn how to play and write your own music. Learn to cook, appreciate good food, good company, and of course good drinks. Get informed through other media outlets that aren't owned by the bloodsucking corporations spoon feeding bleached-out embellished propaganda. Go to http://votehelp.org/ or www.glassbooth.org to fill out a quick questionnaire of your political beliefs. The website shows which candidates you match up with, and then gives you a table of your views compares to theirs on issues and their levels ofimportance: abortion rights, stem cell research, federal student funding, immigration, the death penalty, environmental local and national policy, etc. I was stunned at how old-fashioned and closed minded Ron Paul was (supporting corporation incentives, believing abortion should be illegal, not caring about the environment, cutting student funding and emphasizing government overspending), and also surprised that Obama actually has some opinions of his own. As a liberal, female, abortion supporting student, I matched up most closely with Hillary Clinton. So figure out who supports your causes and how important you both consider each social facet to be, and then register to vote!
Here's a little scare tactic to illustrate what the unbridled power of our politicians can cause:

Books:

White Oleander, Speak, The Stand, Snow Falling on Cedars, The Five People You Meet In Heaven, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Prince of Tides, The Bluest Eye, The Poisonwood Bible, Witch Child, anything by Edward Gorey, WAY too many to count.

Heroes:
