I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I once went around Vegas dressed as Baby Skeleton. I have taught a whole bar how to do The Hustle, and a room full of 10-year-olds to play Louie Louie on the ukulele. I strive to create a rock n roll theatre hybrid that isn't as pretentious as all that.

My Interests

Learning other languages (portuguese right now) Spinning yarns, playing music, people who keep me up all night, cooking, arguing, surprising passions, wasted youth. Summarizing my complex self ineptly for the casual perusal of others. Figuring out how to be a cool teacher without becoming/developing a huge ass in the process.

I'd like to meet:

Know what? I was able to take one hero off this list. Seriously.Do you know how to use an electric stove? Because I sure don't. Canada, I love you man, it's great to be back, but this shit sucks.Compatriots to storm the dancefloor when conversation is stilted at parties. A little money so I could work more on what I love. That bartender who complimented my whole family's fros one night. People who will teach me things. Like: bass lines, jokes, science, handshakes, car tricks. Other people in a state of flux. Gilberto Gil in 1969, but now would be fine too. Graduate students. Puppeteers. People with questioning eyebrows and/or curly hair. Anyone in Brazil. And, of course, anyone who harbors a secret crush but would never post anything in that column in the classified section.

Music:

Tropicalia, rocksteady, dust-encrusted 45s, Neil Young's top 3 records, Simply Saucer, psychedelic soul, anything with organ that manages the mournful to funky divide, Oneida, Special Ed, Prince, Savath & Savalas This tells you what I'm listening to that's not records: http://www.last.fm/user/jjlookalso

Movies:

Lately: Everything Michael Winterbottom and Almodovar, The Third Man, the Apartment, & Waiting for Guffman once left me in actual pain.

Television:

A wiser person than I used this space for artists, and i will too: Arbus, Rothko, graffiti kids in Rio, that room in the Meniil... Oh, I am not too fancy for TV either: Arrested Development, 6 feet Under, 30 Rock, Weeds

Books:

Augusto Boal, Nabokov, Bruno Schulz, theater theory crap

I've been playing with the digital camera.

I realize now that this will never be a true "blog," and also that for better or worse, this myspace will never be friendster. Both are shallow epiphanies, but really, I have plenty of friendsters an...

terrible mood

I am in a terrible mood. The kids were awful today, a fact I contributed to by sitting on and taking a consequent spill from a three legged table. And then, wait-listed, again, to the program I want...

10 plagues

I'm having a seder tonight. The house is a wreck as I have cooked 50% of the food, inadvertently had to learn sink repair, and taken up serious smoking again in attempt to get it all done. On the pl...

the continuing saga of a girl with no money who saw too much music

late last night i saw the walkmen, who sound a lot like very old u2...it was very epic, in a large warehouse filled with staggeringly drunk youths, it made me think about seeing jonothan fire*eater 6...
