About Me

Hi, I like to compose classical music, as you can probably tell. I’ve written and arranged for a wide variety of instrumentation, but these days I am favoring chamber music for strings. I just don’t have time to write as much as I would like. A CD of my 1st string quartet is available. It was performed by the WSCM String Quartet, and can be purchased through the WSCM site (link below), CD Baby, or downloaded at iTunes etc.The WSCM Quartet has plans to record my second string quartet this summer and re-record the first quartet as well with their new lineup of musicians. Below is a sample of my work. All of these works (except the 2nd quartet, which has not been premiered yet) have been performed. Some of the samples are synth though, for lack of a recording, or else I just haven’t converted the live recordings to the right format.

My Interests

Composing classical music, playing violin and guitar, non-fiction, cats, fish and aquatic plants, characins, travel (Europe esp.), working out, art: the Brueghels, Bosch, Dali, Vermeer, Dürer, Friedrich, Aivazovsky, Monsted, Bouguereau, Alma-Tadema, Nesterov, Monet, Millet, Goya's creepy stuff. I am amused by that which is either very intellectual or extremely retarded. Mediocrity bores me.

Music:

Dvorák, Ravel, Bach, Beethoven, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Khachaturian, Mozart, Mussorgsky, Sibelius, Glinka, Rimsky-Korsakov, Borodin, Debussy, Mahler, Villa-Lobos, Grieg, Pärt, Wagner, Vivaldi, Berlioz, Brahms, Haydn, Delius, Bartok, Chopin, Smetana, Barber, Granados, Albéniz, Dowland, Poulenc, Piazzolla, Scriabin, Tárrega, Corelli, Delibes, Satie, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett, Led Zeppelin, Pretenders, Rasputina, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton is still God, Siouxie, Allman Bros., Zappa, Sadies, Neko Case, Derek and the Dominos, Captain Beefheart (Trout Mask Replica), Sheryl Crow, The Cramps, Robert Johnson, Doors, Björk, Black Sabbath, Santana, Johnny Cash, R.E.M., Robert Johnson, Tom Petty, Blue Stingrays, CCR, Eric Nelson, Iron Butterfly, James Gang, Los Straitjackets, The Monkees, Calexico, ZZ Top, Sex Pistols, Radiohead, Reverend Horton Heat, World music, Calexico, Cowboy Junkies, Indian classical music, Ravi Shankar, King Crimson, Mekons, PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Yael Naim, Velvet Underground, Cibo Matto, The Cult, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy. When you listen to my playlist, you NEVER KNOW what to expect next!!!!

Movies:

Anything by Stanley Kubrick, sci-fi, LOTR, Godfather 1 & 2 (3 sucked), Dr. Zhivago, Office Space, comedies (but not romantic comedies, they are lame), Horror movies because they're funny, Schindler's List, Private Ryan, Good Shepherd, animated movies, Shrek, Unforgiven, High Plains Drifter. Anything with Clint Eastwood, Anthony Hopkins, or Antonio Banderas. Anything with Yoda in it.

Television:

I try not to watch too much TV. Discovery channel, science documentaries, Simpsons, Cops, Family Guy, South Park, news sometimes. Basically, either intellectually-stimulating documentaries or blatant gratuitous garbage in the form of cartoons. Not much in between. I don't like reality TV. What is the point in watching simulated reality on television, when my whole purpose of watching TV is to escape reality?

Books:

Cat in the Hat, Ulitmate Power Ninja book, Army field manuals, Principles of Orchestration 1 & 2- Rimsky Korsakov

Heroes:

Too many musicians to name.
