About Me

Life's a shit sandwich, my ass. Life's a polka, and don't you forget it. From "She's Come Undone"
Another "House" gem: "If you're here for feelings, I left them in my other pants."
"That's what life is ... Life is a series of rooms. And who you get stuck with in those rooms adds up to what your life is." — House
"When he is with people he often finds pockets in the noise that he can crawl into and fill with his own thoughts, soft familiar thoughts with worn rounded corners." (From the short story "Muleskinners" by Lydia Peele)
I don't want terminology from the cover your ass handbook, Paul. —PB
My answer to the question, "Fresh ground pepper?" is always, "Yes! Yes! Yes!"
I'm an OU alum who works for a small-town newspaper and hopes to move to a big city some day very soon.
I try to run about three miles a day but have a weak spot for ice cream.
I'm a terrible cook.
I love autumn, coffee, great stories, magazines, Q-tips, rainy weather, mushrooms, libraries, solar energy, water chestnuts, British accents and the color orange.
I hate helicopters, live comedy, tapered jeans, sauerkrautt, backward or sideward baseball caps (unless worn 'ironically' or by a Canadian), standing ovations and the 'slow clap', the keypad on my housemate's door, and any kind of meat that comes in a can of soup.
I'm still undecided on zombies, legwarmers, home improvement shows, football, sherbet and county fairs.
I'm a cat person with a soft spot for sweet dogs.
I'm a reporter, but I don't read the paper.
I am strongly anti anything decaf or diet.
I sometimes work out to Frank Sinatra.
I love F7 and making the long dash on a Mac.
My favorite men: Colin Firth, Ewan McGregor, Paul Rudd, Sean Connery, Gary Senise, John Stewart, Simon Pegg, Jeff Probst, Benjamin Bratt, Joseph Fiennes, Jimmy Stewart, Michael Caine, Mel Gibson (in Lethal Weapon I, II and III), Zach Braff, Howard Roark, Gilbert Blythe, Danny Wallace

My Blog

Well, it is Light

I've made a resolution to drink alone more.I know that sounds a little odd. (OK, a lot odd.) But here's the thing. I just got home from another 10-hour day of non-physical but mentally draining work. ...

A day for comfypants

I woke up feeling uninspired and couldn't muster the energy not to slip into indifference and, eventually, utter ire toward most human beings. Days like these I can't put my finger on why I feel the w...

The Mystery Club

I'm sitting outside on the front lawn, enjoying the sun after days of rain and making my first attempt at studying for the GRE. But I keep getting distracted by the kids that live across the street ...

Too c-c-caffeinated

I can't focus on one thought. I've had too much coffee, too much sleep. I'm sitting here trying to establish a theme and instead am pulling all these threads in my mind  none of which end up attached...

The end of the world

I feel like a coke addict lately, only replace cocaine with colorful foil-covered chocolate eggs, peanut butter cups and the occasional Esther Price turtle. Eating chocolate gives me headaches and che...

Life lessons

Apparently, it is possible to make a bad salad. I always kind of thought whatever you throw together, as long as there's a lettuce or other leafy base, it would end up tasting OK. Especially if doused...

Groceries

I don't have a plan for this blog, which is unusual for me. I generally have a topic, something to bitch about or a story to tell, in mind before beginning. But here I am, just typing and we shall see...

The drive

I've got a British woman talking in my head. Mom and I have been driving for a couple of days now and we're on the eighth disc of the book-on-tape, "Natural Flights of the Human Mind," which I picked ...

If you've ever watched an entire television series on DVD, one after another most likely not all in one sitting you may understand the feeling of loss that comes when you're on the last disc and n...

The Library

I love the library. I know I'm not the first person to say that, and it's not a very exciting thing to say, but I am stating it nevertheless. Lately, with all the TV watching I've been doing thanks to...
