About Me

"A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person."Married for three and a half years to Justin, my very best friend and the love of my life. Ok, so we don't always get along . . . but who does? We're the proud parents of three fat kitties: Peanut, Joda and Nora. No plans for any human babies anytime soon.We moved from Tacoma, Washington to Muncie, Indiana a year ago so that I could attend grad school. We're readjusting to life in the Midwest and although we've gone a little soft and pudgy, we've otherwise adapted nicely.I'm in my second semester of grad school at Ball State University where I'm working on a Master's in Historic Preservation. I've also applied to the Anthropology grad program to pursue a second Master's in Historical Archaeology.Last year Justin just finished four years in the Army (one year in Iraq) and is now part of the Indiana National Guard. One more year to go, and we're done with the military!

My Interests

Old stuff and new ideas.Historic architecture in general - especially roadside, commercial, vernacular and ethnic architecture. I also get my kicks from American folklore and folklife, historical archaeology and social history.Outdoor activities: caving, hiking, camping, sea kayaking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, scuba diving and rock climbing. (Not a lot of opportunity for some of these activities in Indiana!)Thrift stores, garage sales, antique shops and random piles of junk.

I'd like to meet:

All the people I already know but never see. That's the thing about people today - nobody stays in one place anymore. I'd love to keep in touch with old friends and schoolmates from Ohio, seldom-seen and far-flung relatives, old college buddies from Missouri, friends and former co-workers from Philly and Washington, new friends from Muncie and Ball State, and all of those swell people I've met along the way who are scattered around the country and the world.I'd especially like to find old friends I've lost contact with, like Sharon Autry Lujin.

Music:

A little bit of everything but mostly folk, acoustic, blues, classic rock and alternative rock. I have a peculiar soft spot for 70s folk by artists such as John Denver, James Taylor & Cat Stevens.Although I'm not a big fan of country, I love Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, and the Dixie Chicks.

Movies:

Harold & Maud is my all-time favorite movie.

Television:

LOST, Heroes and CSI.

Books:

Walk Across America by Peter Jenkins is my favorite book. It just has a really great, inspiring story.

Heroes:

I know this sounds corny, but my heroes would probably have to be all of the U.S. soldiers who risk their lives for this stupid fucking war. Even though they may not agree with any of it, they do their job. They go through more crap than most people can imagine. I also have to give props to all of the spouses and family members who stick by their soldiers. Its a tough life for sure.
