- Mitzi Macintosh 1999Much like most mothers, as a child Mitzi was constantly told how painful the birthing process was for her mother. Delivering a child with its arms outstretched and mouth open bellowing show tuns is not a comfortable experience for any woman. It was obvious from a very early age she would follow her heart into the theatre and the lack of a spotlight, stage or scenery didn't stop her from being the centre of attention at the hint of an audience. Two starring roles in local theatre productions at the Lawson community hall and she had the taste of applause, if people had known they should have stopped her here. The son of a preacher man Mitzis' father had turned his hand to the theatrics of the church. After a brief brush with the uniting church (she brushed up against men too often and the church brushed her off) she was thrown out for flamboyance, alone in the gutter she felt the calling of stage once again. Amateur theatre prepared her for what was to come next, roles in "Hello Dolly" with Lola Nixon Old Time Music Hall, City lights and other shows gave her a taste of fame and she had found her yellow brick road. At a field along the way she linked up with a fellow thesbian then Trudi and Mitzi headed off to the Emerald city with a third member who, because of her clubbed foot and lack of dress sense was tossed aside. Arriving in Sydney in 1988, Mitzi took a job waitressing at "Les Girls" but this wasn't enough she wanted more. A one woman show at Scooters and a job offer from Leggs Galore and the rest as they say is history, or should I say herstory. Best new talent in 1990 was the beginning of a string of DIVA awards, best show cast/Dragnet, Dragdolls, Totally fruit and Pleasure pact as well as awards for Costume Design. In the last ten years she has produced award winning shows, putting together the concepts, designing and making the costumes as well as editing the music. She has become a well respected Diva of the Drag scene (through longevity more than anything else). Performing in Mardi Gras and Sleaze ball shows, Hand in Hand and the Rainbow party she has become a much loved part of the Sydney gay scene. Her work in the Inner West has made her the spokesperson for the average home renovator and she has gladly taken her place in the history of Sydney Drag along side such greats as.......oh I can't think of any right now. Love her or hate her she is here to stay.Mitzi has been performing on the Sydney scene for 19 years and has become a well respected entertainer,show producer and costume designer. Her forte is comedy but with a theatrical background she is a talented and versatile artiste having worked in dance and drama as well as comedy shows.
Mitzi has been described as anything from a cross between Walt Disney and the Muppets to a vision of beauty (be it ever so blurry)
Her regular work means she is performing five nights a week,most notably as the "Queen of the Imperial"Starring in "The Original Priscilla Show" since 1994, but has also appeared in the following
