About Me

I'm a big time geek (mostly to do with computers, but also Sci-Fi), although the only problem I have with talking to non-geeks is they'll have trouble getting me to shut up. Although I am quite shy and quiet a lot of the time I can flip over to being outgoing, boisterous and very fun to be with as well! I just need a gentle tug/push to get me going.

I have an ongoing struggle with anxiety and depression, but I TRY not to let that get in the way. It does seem to mean I have an understanding of that kind of problem in other people.

I adore cats, having shared my home with many over the years, starting when I was only 2.5. The most recent was Tiger, from Jul 2005 to Apr 2007. For various reasons I 'let him go' with the ex-gf I shared him with. Dogs I can abide, depending on their temperament (no small, yappy ones, but good-natured larger ones are fine, if still smelly :P).

I've at times been describable as a 'Goth', although all good goths always protest that they're not. Specifically I'm more a trad-goth than the more recent bleepy goth type. During that time I ended up with pierced nipples and a tattoo. So, who wants to go to any trad-goth/industrial type nights at clubs? Betty Ford Clinic runs a good one judging by when I went on the 23rd March 2007.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who'll give me a chance to get out of my shell and have a good time. I'm usually shy to start with, but will burst out in a flurry of activity, boisterousness and being too loud if you're (un)lucky.Note I'm sticking with 'single' for my relationship status, but am polyamorous. This is NOT the same as being a 'swinger' so I'm not going to select that option instead. At time of writing (July 2007) I am in one relationship and exploring other possibles as well.

Music:

Almost anything but Rap, Country&Western and Folk.Some examples: Goo Goo Dolls, Evanescence, Nine Inch Nails, T'Pau, A-Ha, Rammstein, Apocalyptica, Dave Matthews Band, Kate Bush, Vangelis, U2, Lisa Loeb, HIM, Air, Live, The Crocketts, The Rasmus, The Sundays, Garbage, Stabbing Westward.For a clubbing night out I'll take Gothy/Industrial/Good 80s for preference, but am more than willing to go to anything else, just none of the rap etc I mentioned.

Movies:

I mostly like Sci-Fi and Fantasy, but also enjoy Thrillers and the quirkier movies like The Butterfly Effect, Donnie Dark, Sixth Sense, Dark City etc.I AM a child of the 70s and remember each Star Wars film as it came out.I don't totally object to Romance movies, but it depends on my mood. Comedy is ALWAYS good.

Television:

Dr Who, Jericho, Stargate (SG-1 and Atlantis), Battlestar Galactica, The Dresden Files, South Park, Scrubs, The Simpsons, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Farscape, Dark Angel, Torchwood, Robin Hood (cheesey but enjoyable), Penn & Teller's Bullshit!

Books:

Again with the Sci-Fi and Fantasy, add in a dash of thrillers and anything else people can get me to try. I don't really bother with non-fiction stuff, as I want to be entertained, but I could be convinced.

Heroes:

Given my love of the Linux OS, I have to mention Linus Torvalds. What's not to like about a guy who was just playing around with his new 386 and ended up sparking off one of the most popular, and free, OSs in the world leading to an industry that employs 10000s of people ?Anyone that genuinely cares about doing the right thing and leaving things better than they found them.
