After the break-up of their former band, Porcelain God, in the summer of 2003, guitarists Tom & Joby, bassist Paul and drummer Carl decided to carry on jamming together as a four piece, originally toying with looking for a vocalist to make them a five piece once again. However, after a short while, due to study commitments, Joby had to move away and consequently four became three. The remaining guys decided to ditch the old name (and the old songs for the most part) and start almost from scratch. The following year or so was spent writing music, practicing and generally just hanging out. The band finally decided on the name Gifted By Loss and once again, talk of actively looking for a vocalist came up. And so they advertised…After trying out several vocalists, nothing seemed to work and the search became less and less fruitful. Then Sebastian came along… Formerly a member of a number of bands in his native Sweden, Sebastian brought some fresh influences to the band and rejuvenated the desire to get this music heard! With the vocal parts to the songs complete, the band decided to unleash their brand of crushingly heavy music on anyone willing to listen (and more than a few besides!!).After Sebastian departed to return to a band in his native Sweden, 2 years of vocalist hunting ended when Flan auditioned and was instantly hired by the band. His vocal style being different to Sebastian's, but equally brutal. Think Tim Williams of Vision Of Disorder or Karl Middleton of Earthtone9.And so Gifted By Loss was truly born. A group of friends with a wide range of influences creating an unholy sound that has to be heard to be believed!! With their new material ready to be released in early 2008, it is expected that GBL will finally start to release their potential this year.
