Rabid film fanatic; there's an endless amount of movie trivia in my head, whether I want it there or not. Need to know who won Best Actor in 1958? Best original score in 1962? I'm your man. (The answers are David Niven and Maurice Jarre if you care)I love movies old and new and am always astonished by the talent out there, and the complete crap out there as well. Hiking through the Hollywood Hills clears my head and gets my heart pumping; there's a great trail in Malibu called Solstice Canyon that leads to a pretty little waterfall; Yosemite is an annual pilgrammage -- it's that beautiful. The Hollywood Bowl is the best thing about LA after The Dodgers and I attend at least 20 times a year. It's an experience I'd recommend for anyone visiting the city, and if you live here and haven't been, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Your Summer Ride is a Beetle Convertible
Fun, funky, and a little bit euro.
You love your summers to be full of style and sun!
What's Your Summer Ride?
A good road trip with the perfect iPod road mix is essential to my mental health. Travel in general is a passion, and something I don't get to indulge near enough. Have been through Europe and the middle East. Crossed the Sinai Peninsula from Israel to Egypt and went from Asia to Africa in a matter of minutes as a result. Egypt is the most fascinating place I've ever been to. I spent my birthday on a camel riding through the desert to the Great Pyramids and actually crawled inside one of them (Pyramid, not a camel, I mean -- the pyramid of Cheops to be exact). Israel is a beautiful, lush country that I'll probably never get back to, but am so glad I saw when I had the chance.Skiing down the side of a snowy mountain in winter at breakneck speed is one of life's greatest joys. Other simple pleasures for me: espresso, my iPod, an ice cold dirty martini; fried okra; key lime pie; fireplaces; the smell of woodsmoke from a campfire; rain hitting a tin roof; great music; white sheets on a big bed; blazers; the beach; Malibu Kitchen has THE greatest meatloaf ever; love the rain when it comes to LA because it is so infrequent and the city freaks out like the world is ending. It's hysterical.
Getting rid of illiteracy in this country is a passion -- I've been been trained and taught adult literacy classes. Reading and writing are taken for granted -- you can't imagine how many people really just can't. Tt's astonishing, and makes me mad.
At this point, I've met almost everybody famous that I cared to meet, with all the shows that I've done in Hollywood, New York, Vegas, Miami and so on. Julia Roberts was a favorite; Debra Messing introduced me to Michelle Pfeiffer (that was a good day); Sting gave me a bottle of Dom Perignon at the Grammys; I was standing three feet in the wings when Madonna made out with Britney at the VMAs at Radio City Music Hall; Gladys Knight is a classy, beautiful lady who couldn't be more talented or kinder. Worked the Happy Days Reunion show, and met all of the characters from Fonzie, Ralph Malph, Potsie and Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham. In fact, Marion Ross (Mrs. C) invited me to the after party at her house, which was a real treat. Sitting by the pool talking to Ron Howard about Cinderella Man; chatting up Henry Winkler, who couldn't have been nicer or nerdier; ending the night playing bocci ball in the backyard with Marion Ross, who was feeling pretty good by then, and the next day at the show wrap meeting having Erin Moran (Joannie) invite me out for a beer at The Farmers Market in LA (which of course I accepted). There are many out here who have better stories than I, but I've had my share of great experiences with some of "the industry's" more remarkable talents. There are of course diva horror stories I could tell, but for fear of litigation, I'll refrain from who was a monster. :) One of them is currently in the middle of a long-needed divorce if that helps you figure out anything.Outside of historical figures that I'll have to wait to meet in heaven or something (Jesus, Abraham Lincoln and countless others) I love meeting new people who can make me laugh and make me think. A sense of humor goes a long way with me; looks may fade but a sense of humor stays with you til the end. And let's face it, we all end up a little funny looking toward the end.
Caffe Vanilla Frappuccino
Smooth and sweet, you fit in to almost any crowd. No one would suspect you of being a coffee tweaker!

Right now...Richard Buckner, The Shins, Matt Pond PA, Ryan Adams, Nada Surf, Wilco, The Autumn Defense, Nickle Creek, Alex Woodard, Creede Williams, Radiohead, Red House Painters, Death Cab, Damien Rice, Elliot Smith, Son Volt, Pinback, Keane, Lucinda Wms, Uncle Tupelo, Golden Smog, Bright Eyes, The Who, Stevie Wonder, Townes Van Zant, Willie, Johnny Cash, etc. I'm all over the map musically, as you might have images. -- Sting, U2, the Beatles, old 80s music, movie soundtracks, Van Morrison, Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Krall, Maroon 5, Coldplay; I can go on and on. I"m sure the list will grow. Angela Easterling,
Beau Davidson, Tonya Watts, Dave Phenicie, Shawn Davis, Nick Randolph are some local favorites -- check out their myspace pages. Jazz, country, hip-hop, pop, rock, classical. I'm pretty well-rounded in the music department and have excellent and eclectic tastes. I make THE best mixes for partying, chilling out, making out, working out. I'm always interested in discovering new bands and artists, so please keep me in the loop.
Too many to even know where to begin -- but here's a quick start -- anything by Alfred Hitchcock (though Rear Window is his very best, followed closely by Vertigo and Pyscho); most of Steven Spielberg's films (Jaws, Raiders, Schindler's List, Empire of the Sun); The Mission; The Shawshank Redemption; On Golden Pond; Lawrence of Arabia; To Kill a Mockingbird; Bonnie & Clyde; Some Like it Hot; The Godfather; Finding Neverland; Bad Education; Grease; Anatomy of a Murder; The Magnificent Seven; The Apartment; Meet the Fockers; A Mighty Wind; The Forty Year Old Virgin; Waiting for Guffman; This year I've liked Superman Returns, The Devil Wears Prada; Prairie Home Companion; Lucky Number Slevin and most recently The Departed. Helen Mirren is terrific in The Queen and will win the Oscar this year; Forest Whitaker is a shoo-in for Best Actor, but Peter O'Toole could surprise us. Jennifer Hudson must win for Dreamgirls; Eddie Murphy is a favorite, but I think Alan Arkin could be a sentimental choice. Little Miss Sunshine is adorable and easily the sleeper hit of the year. Running with Scissors was very entertaining, but didn't do too well; maybe on DVD it will find its audience. Hollywoodland was great, and I despise Ben Affleck, but give him props for his performance here. I will be at the Oscars on Sunday, so we'll see how it all goes and I'll report back with behind the scenes stories.
Classic tv is hard to beat: The Andy Griffith Show; Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler-Moore; Seinfeld; Cheers; Will & Grace. Current TV: Nip/Tuck my new favorite -- wonderfully sick and disgusting and completely twisted. ER, Sopranos, Entourage, Grey's Anatomy; I miss Six Feet Under every day and wish it would have been on for ten more years; Lost makes no sense at all but still keeps me pulling me in every week (thank God for Tivo!)Scrubs is wonderfully original and always makes me laugh Of the new crop of TV shows, love Studio 60 and Brothers and Sisters. Friday Night Lights is a good dose of teenage angst; Ugly Betty surprised me; I liked it. But the recent addition of Rebecca Romijn as the brother-turned-sister was a bit of jumping the shark. Let's hope they can survive it. I like Heroes, but it's a bit of a head scratcher. Please share with me any of your new favorites -- maybe I'm missing something.
Anything by Mark Twain, but Huck Finn stands out for me; To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the best books of the 20th century; Thomas Wolfe, William Styron, William Faulkner (Sound and the Fury a difficult but terrific read) Southern writers inspire me and I hope to be among them one day -- even alongside John Grisham, another great southern writer (see, I'm no snob) A good mystery is a great thing. I hate, loathe despise supposed "self-help" and "get-rich-quick" books. They are crap and give people false hope. So there. If they work for you, no judgment, but they are SO not my thing.
Abraham Lincoln, with whom I share a birthday; my dad, my mother; my brother; my cousin Joy and her sister Angela; the Dodgers - let's hope they make it to the World Series this year!
