Winner of Portland and Seattle University's Battle of the Bands
Ruby Hill is releasing their first EP this June (will be available on myspace)
Ruby Hill hails from Washougal, a small town in the suburbs of Portland, and pulls their influences from a diverse group of artists. With a mix of relaxed rock, old school soul, and a touch of blues, they combine these influences to create a sound that can be appreciated by old and young alike. Some of their major influences include John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Beatles, Otis Redding, Jeff Buckley, and Aretha Franklin.
Although Ruby Hill has been a concept long in the making, they have only been officially together for a little over a year. The band was formed in March of 2007 by Matt Brown (guitar / vocals) and Jacob Battan (bass guitar). In need of a second guitarist, they took a risk by placing an add on Craigslist where they found Jordan Clark (guitar / back up vocals). He turned out to be a perfect fit for the band and completed the sound Ruby Hill Was striving to create. After a succession of unsuccesful attempts to find a drummer that also fit their sound Ruby hill decided to try Craigslist again where they found current drummer Frank Lubas.
Ruby Hill knows how to play well as a group, striving to attain a noticeable cohesiveness on stage. Their comfort level on stage exudes a sense of "feel good ease" that is contagious. They have played for University venues in Seattle and intimate venues throughout the Portland area, including Border's books.
