About Me

...Who I am...
...Anirul Sadow-Tonkin...
....Italian...Leo...artist...infamous doll-maker extraordinaire..."she's the one that makes those ugly babies "...up-and-coming doll doctor...fabric fiend...costume builder...history geek...mega-nerd...bookworm...music fan...Dune addict...Star Wars maniac...Middle Earth freak...Man-Hater...Sorted into ...forever STUCK as designated driver and never the lush..."always chimes in with sick shit"...she's got da hook-ups...the buddy chick...little sister...big sister...masochistic workaholic...Spoiled Princess...Queen Bitch...Empress of the Cynics...Little Miss Rock and Roll...Fabulous Diva...Jager Ho...MAC Make-up Whore...typical Z-list "celebrity"...a bitch you'd love to hate...happy to be herself... who doesn't give a rat's ass if you don't like it...
A week in the life of me... well... I work full time, have my own business, and attend school full time and I always manage to find plenty of time for "me" in all that chaos as well!
For a living, I get into people's pants and make Ugly Babies, and get paid to do it all. Yea, sounds effed up, eh? Well, I am a seamstress by day and I make and restore dolls from my home...so yes, I get into people's pants and make Ugly Babies.
Yes, I'm aware most of my pictures suck. Hey, never said I was a model or claimed to be hot! I do admit I LOVE showing off my dolls and them meeting their real-life counterparts!
I'm the typical fiesty Italian Leo who can be your best friend or the biggest bitch you'd ever meet. I'm also a strange blend of conservative and liberal. I have a very very warped sense of humor... comes from always being seen as "one of the guys" (ah, yes, the "buddy chick" kind of girl!). I'm known for being somewhat of a non-drinker, but don't let it fool ya... when I am in the mood I can chug Jager like no one's business and have been known to drink an entire bottle myself, or drink up the bar's Jager supply.
I'm girlie at times, but far from being the prissy girlie-girl type (I think I was absent the day that trait was handed out). I'll admit I'm infinitely vain about my eyebrows and will not hesitate to raise hell if someone messes them up, yet I can not be arsed to paint my nails. I love wearing big white sunglasses. I love proclaiming my rockstar-badassery because I'm a goof like that. I have a love/hate relationship with my body. Yes, *they* are real, and why women would pay for ones like them baffles me because THOSE THINGS SUCK!
I have a very Diva-like personality at times and could care less if my self-centered attitude pisses people off. Perhaps I am the way I am because I'm tired of dealing with people's shit and dealt with more than my fair share. I feel that people, especially guys in general, can really suck and I've beens screwed over enough.
I'm a self-proclaimed social-phobe who can barely handle going to the local mall, yet I think nothing of getting in my car to see a concert 10 hours away...SOLO... and handle it just fine. I act like a lady but can be the biggest guttermind of the bunch (heh just ask my big bro!). I can take apart a computer and upgrade it myself, but I can't make French toast. My three dogs are my babies and live better than most people, probably because they act better than most people. I tell them if human boys were half as smart as them, human girls would have it made.
I don't know if I'll ever have children of my own. I'm not real keen about it, and honestly I think *for me* I'd rather help care for children already here, so I'll probably adopt rather than go about it the old fashioned way. Right now, my 3 dogs are all the "children" I need. Besides, I don't think the world can handle a live-action mini-me, and the thought terrifies me!
I hate "labels", but if I had to give myself one, I'd say I'm a rocker chick to the core, but I also am not above admitting I've seen the Backstreet Boys in concert and enjoyed myself immensely (and seen them both sober AND drunk!). I'm wicked into classic rock to the point where it seems like I was born in the wrong decade.
I live and breathe art. Drawing, painting, sewing, sculpting, taking pictures ... I am a Jack of many disciplines but master at none, though sewing is where I excell more than anything. What does it matter.... I love it and enjoy it and it is a HOBBY for me, as well as a passion, and what I do for a living...because I'm fortunate like that. I'm not out to be the next Versace, or Picasso... I'm *me*.
I love dolls. I collect them, I make them, and I try to fix them up. My doll collection ranges from pretty American Girl dolls to twisted hand-made voodoo dolls.
Yes, I make "those ugly babies"
Never in a million years did I ever see myself doing something like this!!
So.... why dolls? Why not? For those of you out of the loop, I got my start recreating historic garments, or garments inspired by fashions I'd seen in historic paintings from 14th-18th centuries. Think of the dolls as the same thing... recreating something I see...only this time around, it's making perfectly normal dolls look perfectly abnormal and not making beautiful dresses.
These days, I really do not create any human clothing for others... I no longer have the free time to do that (unless I'm paid, of course!) Besides, there's only so many places one can wear a 15th-century inspired gown, and dolls are much easier to fit than humans.
They also don't complain when I stick them with pins....*evil laugh*
No, I don't know voodoo.
Seriously.
I wish I did, though!
My dolls are created by special order only or at my own whim. My Ugly Babies are special order only, and the ones I make for my own whim are original characters. If you would like your own Ugly Baby, then please click here . Many are part of other's personal collections, and a few are part of my personal collection/portfolio.
I chose Slipknot as my first set of dolls because I think they translate into minature form well, and give Chucky a run for his money in the whole creepiness factor. Besides, nothing's funnier than seeing sinister-looking dolls in their 19" glory!
Mushroomhead was the first band to be made into 24" "Junior" sized dolls...and they surpass the miniKnots in creepiness! They're the size of small children and even creep me out... and that says a lot if I am freaked out by my own work! Ventana is the first band to have their entire line-up made from the 24" dolls since Stitch, who is also in Mushroomhead, loved his doll so much he asked me to make Ventana.
"Emotional Circus" is my first set of original character dolls, all based on emotions and experiences. The series is still coming together and may be at an art gallery near you next summer!
I am also starting to slowly but surely drift into the realm of restoring and repairing older dolls. No, I do not make them ugly... I do my best to get them back to how they originally looked while keeping some of the "age" they acquired.
Yes, my dolls are in quite a few of my profile pictures. I worked hard on them, and I like to show that hard work off...especially when they get to meet their real-life counterparts. I'm very proud of what I have accomplished.
I have one on here. For the most part, it's public. However, it tends to be pretty impersonal and mainly has updates/rants on my artwork and other miscellaneous inconsequential things that I don't mind making public. Sometimes there's posts that I only want people on my list to see, but unless you actually *know* me, you aren't missing anything.
If you're a fan of my work, then my blog on here is the place to find updates on all of the latest! I also have a blog *specifically* for doll-making found here if you want to skip over the puppy pics and boring general life rants I tend to post. Also check me out here on DeviantArt!
If you like pictures, then you'll get pictures! I do try to post as many pictures as I can, even though they tend to be ones of dolls in the works, finished dolls, or of my 3 precious puppies: Newman, Louie, and Joey (named for the one on FRIENDS!!).
My three precious boys...
L-R Louie, Joey, and Newman... the three cutest little pups EVER!!! They're my precious little boys and spoiled ROTTEN!!
Projects...!
I like doing the "Traveling Doll" thing and right now I have two "partners" I am traveling with!
Gary. Name says it all. He's an up and coming cult icon. He's small pig on a big mission. He travels to as many historic places as possible with the intent to learn. He loves to read, and he also loves to booze it up here and there. His favorite hobby is visiting presidential sites, seeing presidential artifacts, and doing his part to elect the next president. He's an Independent and is adamant that everyone votes!
Add his MySpace to keep up with his travels and adventures!
Nacho the Llama is visiting from Massachusetts and will join Gary on some of his adventures until early July! He doesn't have a MySpace yet, but his gallery page is here !

My Interests

Arts, sewing, dolls, doll-crafting, music, concerts,(rock, classic rock, metal, disco...), fur (yea, yea, to each their own!), traveling, visiting historic sites (especially Presidential ones, my newest obsession!!) costuming, American Girl dolls , lighthouses, Jagermeister, MAC eyeshadows, etc.

Oh and...yea...

*snicker*

I'd like to meet:

In a nutshell....

Intelligent, fun, positive people who do not like to carry negative energy around, fellow artists, fellow doll-crafters....also people who are fans of my work are always welcome! This is the place for all the latest updates and news! So don't be shy...feel free to add me...just drop me a line! I promise I don't bite!!

To be added to my list, please note my simple rules....

*TYPE A MESSAGE WHEN YOU ADD ME (or message me please!!)! No message, no add, no exceptions. Thank you, drive through. If you can't take the time to send me a quick message saying WHY you wish to add me, I can not be bothered to add you. Or at least catch me on AIM at DementedDesigner and talk a bit*

If you are racist, homophobic, and/or oppose gay rights just stay away from me, ok? I don't have time for that backward-thinking bullshit. 99% of the time, I respect people's viewpoints, but the above stuff... gets no respect from me and pisses me off. Yes, I am straight and yes I am active with gay rights.

*Gossipmongers and fantards.... don't want you, don't have time for you.*

*When I say "networking", I mean...if you and I are able to share ideas, information, etc about our hobbies and interests.*

*A warning...I suck at leaving comments on profiles or pics, and usually take a while to reply to messages. You add me with hopes of getting lots of comments from me, you will be dissappointed.*

*I will NOT play "matchmaker*. If you knew my dating luck, you wouldn't DREAM of asking me to hook you up!*

*Speaking of hook-ups... I'm not on here to hook up either, so don't ask. I'm quite happy with how things are now and besides my personal life is not something that anyone needs to concern themselves with (I decided my love life is off-limits on MySpace). If you know me, then you know what's going on.*

*Please bear in mind, I'm a total sweetheart...until you fuck with me.*

No friends? Hehehe... I hid them! I refuse to be defined by who I happen to have on my list. I won't do the top whatever because I will not "play favorites" and/or inadvertantly hurt someone's feelings. This is my page to show who I am... not to show who I "know" or who I "like best". If you're on my list, I like you. Plain and simple :-)

It is important to note that I don't have people on my list for some form of validation or to show off. This isn't a contest for me. Quality over quantity. I know and appreciate that you're on my list!! :-D

Music:

Wanna have a good time? Check these guys out!

First and foremost...

Yea, it could easily be said that June 1, 1996, was the happiest day of my life, musically speaking!!! Just look at that smile (and yes, I am aware that I look like crap...but who cares?)... I'm with Dennis DeYoung (the greatest voice EVER) and Chuck Panozzo on a day that many said would "never happen", but alas, Styx DID reunite in 1996 and go on tour!! I'll never forget the thrills and the chills that went down my spine of hearing Dennis DeYoung sing live for the first time!!! Styx is the band that changed my whole life... their music has gotten me through so many "down" times and I have so many wonderful memories thanks to them... be it of times with friends I met because of them, meeting the band itself, or times at the shows with my friends and family!!!

Words can't even describe how much this band means to me!! They've done so much to help boost my Dollmaking career and despite my severe mask/make-up phobia, they keep me coming back for more! Always a great time to be had at their shows!!

I'm also into Journey, Kansas, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Boston, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, Night Ranger, John Waite, Alice Cooper, Led Zeppelin, Slaughter, Firehouse, Quiet Riot, Korn, Evanescence, HellYeah, Dope, Deadstar Assembly, Lacuna Coil, 40 Below Summer, Daler Mehndi, Junoon, Modern Talking...and of course....

...life has YET to be boring since I was introduced to this band...

...if you have ANY idea of my mask-phobia, you will know that I was SCARED TO DEATH while taking this picture! Yes, I know, the irony... I like Slipknot but am scared of masks....!!! Yes, I also know I look like crap. How would YOU look while standing scared to death after working for 12 hours after having 3 hours of sleep and a massive hangover? Haha!!

You all can blame my creepy little dolls on those guys!! They've inspired me to create something I'd never in a million years think I'd ever do... and have helped me help out some great causes... and brought smiles and laughter, and happy tears, to a LOT of people!!

Movies:

Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Stepford Wives (new), Gone with the Wind, Field of Dreams (been to the Field, too, it ROCKS!), First Wives Club, Snakes on a Plane, Transformers, all three Pirates of the Caribbean, Blades of Glory, Borat, Christmas Story...etc

I'm also madly in love with Tim Burton movies, especially Beetlejuice, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Corpse Bride. He and Danny Elfman are creative geniuses and their movies always inspire me to create!

I also LOVE LOVE LOVE musicals... Sound of Music, Music Man, Guys and Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof, Evita, Chicago, The King and I....

Television:

Weather Channel... especially between 10pm-1am EST :-P Other than that, I avoid TV. I will admit, however, I am totally addicted to Sex and the City . Never been a couch potato...would rather read!

Books:

DUNE!!! OMG talk about greatest Sci-fi series ever written!!!
Let's see...others in realm of fiction....mainly seems to be classic literature and/or sci-fi/fantasy...the top ones are...
Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo
The Harry Potter series
Lord of the Rings
The Hobbit

Other than that... I usually read history books, non-fiction, or history-based fiction. I have a killer collection on the Tudor Dynasty of England and the NC/VA coast. Real life tends to make more exciting and twisted characters than any fiction can concoct.
Some of my top non-fiction picks... and yes I own them all...I'm a total NERD and I love it!!!
Fingerprints of the Gods
Sign and the Seal
Brother of Jesus
Royal Blood
Six Wives: Queens of Henry VIII
by David Starkey
Wives of Henry VIII by Antonia Fraser
Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir
Children of Henry VIII by Alison Weir
Marie Antoinette by Antonia Fraser
Mary and Elizabeth: Cousins, Rivals, Queens
Portrait of a King: Lives of Charles I and Charles II
William's Mary
Sisters of Henry VIII
Portsmouth: The Way it Was
My coastal NC history collection is probably about as extensive as any that you'll find at the bookstores down there. It's kind of scary...!!

Heroes:

I have a massive amount of respect and admiration for people whom have battled cancer...it doesn't matter who one is... if they've fought this illness, I hold them in respect.

Pleasant Rowland

....they doomed her to failure, and she triumphed in a BIG way...and even beat breast cancer while she was at it!! A determined female entepreneur and cancer survivor... what's there not to admire? Oh yea... she's the brains behind the whole American Girl collection!! See... C-L-E-V-E-R!!!

Jeremy...

For 13 months, he battled leukemia and survived a bone marrow transplant... in November 2004, his long battle ended... I miss him more than words can say and admire the strength he showed throughout his whole battle, especially at the end
