About Me

Who Cares Where We Edit Our Profile At!
Get Your Own! | View SlideshowMANIC was founded by Mike Wycoff and David Shoen in the spring of 1998. That's right we're almost 8 years old. The original line up was David Shoen - Guitar/Vocals, Marcus Taintor - Lead Guitar, Mike Wycoff - Bass, & Zac Harrison - Drums. The band never played any gigs under this line up, but let's face it, we sucked back then, but what else do you expect when you're 15 and 16.In the Fall of '98 Nate Houdek moved to Silver Bay. David found out he played guitar. He began jamming with MANIC, and Marcus was out and Nate was in.Nate brought a Classic Rock influence to MANIC to add to their Grunge & Metal influences. They began practicing all the time for 1 year perfecting their craft. Finally they felt they were ready to start pursuing gigs.MANIC preformed its first gig at a high school dance in January of 1999. They played the second half of the dance while the first half was DJ'ed. The band had now began getting it's name out to the public. In March of 1999 the band was preparing to play a set during the High School Variety Show. The day before the show, Zac had thrown out his arm and didn't know if he could play. They decided to call Chad Robinson, a classmate of theirs. Zac ended up playing the show but Chad had become the fill in drummer for MANIC.In the spring of 99, MANIC began to write original work. The first song was titled "The Beginning (of the End)". A song about Nostradamus’s prediction for the end of the world. It was quickly followed by the songs "Drunken", "Final Option", "Victim (of the War)", and the bands biggest hit "Justifier".Over the Summer of 99 MANIC went through its largest change yet. After performing a show that featured both Zac and Chad, the band began to have problems with Zac. Chad, who had already been playing for a few years now and been with a few other bands gave him experience and was growing closer to the band. Then in August the band had began preparing for a battle of the bands and made the decision to replace Zac with Chad.MANIC had made a huge improvement by obtaining Chad, and the chemistry with the band couldn't have been better. The band then went back into writing mode. We wrote about 16 songs, Including "Walking Sanity"," Suicide Dream", "Life", "Hell's Gate", and others. In the Winter of 2000/2001 MANIC had began to face problems from within the band. We were growing and having to think about life beyond High School. Not to mention girlfriends and David & Chad enlisted the National Guard. This prompted Mike to form a side project called "Britney's Peers" where Mike picked up a 14 year old drummer, Mitch Ness.By the Summer of 2001, MANIC had gone dormant, and we all went our separate ways. Nate & Chad had moved to Duluth to work, Mike started College in the Twin Cities, and David was the only one who remained in Silver Bay. This left no free time for MANIC.Then 2 years later, Spring 2003, Mike graduated college and got together with Nate & David. They decided to revive MANIC. Chad still couldn't find the time, so MANIC started jamming with Mitch as a fill in drummer. Then the army called Chad and David to Bosnia for 9 months. MANIC was once again forced to get put on hold, but not indefinitely.Upon the return of David & Chad, MANIC once again began to rehearse. Chad still most of the time was a no show. So Mitch would sit in. Then in the Summer of 2004 MANIC obtained Mitch on a permanent basis, and that fall began pursuing gigs. They were warmly excepted on the Iron Range where they've been playing for the last few years with a few gigs here and there along the North Shore. Now the future of the band remains To be continued... For some quality Southern Rock, checkout MOSES JONES . Also checkout UNDEFINED for some fresh metal out of Duluth.
