Rockys Ferret Rescue & Shelter

A Loving Halfway Home for Wayward Ferrets

About Me

Rocky's Ferret Rescue was established for the education of the safety and welfare of the domestic ferret (Mustela Furo) by educating the staff of veterinarians and pet shops through classes, and to acquaint the public with the genuine qualities and the total care of the ferret as a pet; to discourage backyard breeding that is detrimental to the ferret. Our shelter, Rocky's Ferret Rescue and Shelter, will screen all applicants for adoption for permanent placement to the best of our ability. To receive and restore to health those ferrets in need.

All are welcome to join the successful TEAM of volunteers here at Rocky’s. Volunteering consists of the following:Working at the shelter organizing and cleaning and socializing the ferrets. Assisting in transporting ferrets for inoculations and medical.Demos: Our most important work is education. We accomplish this in many ways. One is to go to feed and/or pet stores and set up a display of informative booklets and flyers. Many times shelter ferrets or personal ferrets are present at these demos. The ferret being the poster child for the terminally misunderstood pet, getting these guys out there to be viewed and shown is a great communicative device.Adoptathons: Several times a year our volunteers take on the challenge of greeting the public with the intention of educating and placing our ferrets. This is a wonderful experience and is a treasured experience by our volunteers.Bonfires: Often our ferret families and volunteers get together at the shelter site on the farm and enjoy an evening of cooking out and a bonfire. We have had memorable occasions here on the farm.Oktoberfest: (Date to be determined) In October of each year we have a fund raiser in the form of a giant cookout. Live music is played all day long by local musicians and stories of ferrets are eagerly swapped by ferret families.Ferretstock: In the Spring we have an open-house with family activities. Of course good music, good food, good friends, and good times are had by all.

In order to adopt a ferret from Rocky's Ferret Rescue & Shelter, you must go through our adoption process. This process may seem a bit long and in-depth, but we want to be sure we find the perfect home for our ferrets. They've already become homeless once, and we want to make sure their next home is forever. The link below will take you to the Rocky's website where you can read about the adoption process and complete an application. Please make sure you do your homework and decide that a ferret is right for you. A good book to read (Ferret Bible to ferret owners) is Ferrets for Dummies.
Here is a link to the on-line adoption form. Please copy and paste it in your web browser.

My Interests

In Loving Memory of Our Fuzzies that Have Passed Over the Bridge

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Fuzzies Who Have Crossed the Bridge
** Bullwinkle and Scooby both crossed the bridge in 2006. Their mom, Angela, brother, Podo and sister, Natasha all miss them very much (Shrewsbury, PA).
** Bandit crossed the bridge in 2001. Her mom, Angela, still misses her(Shrewsbury, PA)

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD A BELOVED FUZZIE TO THE RAINBOW BRIDGE, JUST EMAIL ME HIS/HER NAME, CITY, STATE AND YEAR OF DEATH

Ferret Friends and Family Members

This sweet little boy was taken from an abusive situation. Now he is warm and dry with clean bedding, quality food and fresh water. Safe in the arms of a loving volunteer he is able to relax. Moments like these are what its all about.Get Your Own! | View SlideshowFerrets are being dumped in record numbers everywhere. Losing any shelter means ferrets like the one pictured will lose their chance to live. Every shelter is important. Every ferret counts. Support your local shelter and ALL shelters in every way you can. Make sure these moments keep happening.
