About Me

*UPDATE* [08/30/2007] I am currently residing in Chatham, NY on Internship. I am completing the last phase of my doctorate degree. My relocation is only temporary and I will be traveling to and fro to Cincy for visits! I currently sing/minister with my family group "Generations of Praise" [G.O.P.] and a professional recording artist, "Archie Byers & Remnant"...gospel of course and enjoy quiet evenings at home curled up with a good book or perfecting/enhancing my vocal skills. I am also a graduate student completing my doctoral work in clinical psychology. I have made it by standing on the shoulders of my parents, Julia Evans (10/13/2006) and my father, Clyde J. Evans. My mother decided to be a homemaker and raise three wonderful children. My father, although deaf, worked tirelessly for the government until his retirement in the early 90's. My parents grew up in a time where education was VALUED. Thus, they have been and continue to be my inspiration. Although my journey to this stage of growth has been fraught with challenges and self-awareness, I can proclaim that my spiritual relationship has sustained me. My purpose has been made clear and I am walking in my path with a candle lit by those ahead of me. Is your candle lit and what path will you decide to carve? I am currently working on adding sections to my page that correspond to my professional work and training. I hope that this page will be informative to say the least. I am a firm believer in supporting youth and artists of varying degrees and genres. In the black community (myspace family), we have some very talented actors, singers, authors, lyricists, and politicians who need to be mentioned and supported in their endeavors as they take a stand and represent their unique talents and gifts to better the lives of others. I stand and congratulate you all!

My Interests

I recently conducted research with some of my colleagues on â€œTreatment Outcomes: Women in Brief Chemical Dependence and Trauma Intervention.â€ This will be my first professional paper! In addition the paper was chosen and presented at the 2007 Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA) convention in New Orleans, LA. Lastly, I completed my dissertation titled, "The Stranger Within: Helping Black Gay Men with the Coming Out Process. A Review of the litterature on being Black and Gay". My clinical interests include: working with adolescent Black males, family therapy, group therapy, chemical dependency, issues in sexuality/identity, chronic medical disease paths (i.e. HIV/AIDS, cancer), chronic mental illness, Black community issues, spirituality, Black empowerment, and community mental health.
