I'M ATTRACTED TO SHORT AND SKINNY!

About Me

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

The Jungle in My Back Yard

I have two neighbor cats, Winston and Stinky. Stinky came up to me one day, while I was sitting on my stoop, enjoying my morning orange juice. She purred and rubbed her super soft fur against my naked...

THUNDER LOVE

At one thirty in the morning the loud clap of thunder woke me straight awake!  As it rolled, bellowing away into the dark night, the torential hard rain filled my ears.  My house is like a little card...

I LOVE SATIN!

I love Satin, I love it, who ever invented it should be lauded, applauded, and given a prize, some kind of award, the Nobel Peace Prize maybe, cause if everyone was as into Satin as I was, the world w...

So I'm still sick, and have figured it is some kind of mix breed...  Maybe a cold, with a dash of flu symptoms, add a little bit of migrane, and stir in a hefty helping of congestion, of the alle...

So my SXSW experiences start all the way back in 1999. It was a cold winters Wednesday and "RHD" was loading up the blue band van while the wispy soft snow fell all around us. It was always cold and...
