About Me

I'd approve of a proper snow.******************************************************* ****************************

My Interests

Writing, reading, films, Formula1 racing. Talking about things. Driving. Coffee. Sleeping. Two glasses of wine.Fog, frost, the moon, sheer cliffs.Tidy forests - no kudzu or panthers, please. My office.Having the windows open and not feeling too cold or too warm. 'Some assembly required'. Shade to retreat into when I've had enough sun.Powdered sugar on my fingers. Plans. Traveling. People who laugh. Good customer service. The smell of almond extract. Glass mosaics. Clean sheets. Ivory soap. Getting ready. Tiramisu. Plantains with hot sauce. Lime spritzers. Tea in the afternoon. Port late at night. Wondering, then knowing.Adding to this list. Lemons peeled and eaten like oranges. Tomatoes wedged and eaten like apples. Rowdy blackbirds.I do not like speed bumps. At all. Or passing on a hill at the mercy of four timid cylinders.Or double standards. Or arbitrariness.CURRENT MOON moon phases

I'd like to meet:

Writers and people who are amused and amusing. And people who understand the satisfaction of peeling a boiled egg perfectly.

Music:

Hmmmm. Found music on MySpace. I know, not earthshattering on its own, but it was good enough for me to buy the cd (excellent from start to finish) and add a musician to my friends list. What's the world coming to?Anyway, her name is Missy Higgins and I think she's terrific.

Movies:

Die Hard, Memento, Stranger Than Fiction, Jurassic Park, 'Til Human Voices Wake Us, The Sea Inside, Speed, Casino Royale, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Camelot, The Exorcist, Reign of Fire, Shaun of the Dead, Fight Club, The Hunt for Red October, The World's Fastest Indian, Severance, Amelie, The Matrix, Ice Age, Poltergeist, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, American Beauty, Liar, Liar, Star Wars, The Silence of the Lambs, Young Frankenstein, Top Gun, Layer Cake, The Phantom of the Opera, Superman, Kill Bill and this is a very random, incomplete list. Obviously. But I want to go on and on.

Television:

House, Grand Prix racing, NFL Football and surgery shows. And I'll be damned if Jess didn't rope me into the last few episodes of 'So You Think You Can Dance'. I am in love with Pasha Kovalev. Yes. Yes, I am.

Books:

I've just finished Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. It's one of the best books I've ever read. I haven't been this swept clean by a book, well outside one other, in ages.I remember why I love reading! Great, great book and no mystery at all as to why it won the Pulitzer. Other favorites: The Gunseller, by Hugh Laurie The Book of the Dun Cow, by Walter Wangerin Jr. The Life of Pi, by Yann Martel The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver The Red Tent, by Anita Diamant The Stand, by Stephen King Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, by Gregory Maguire

Heroes:

Joe Kittinger. Lewis Hamilton. Niki Lauda. John Walsh. Stay tuned, there could be more -- I'm feeling generous of spirit and that doesn't happen all that often.

The Dressing Gown

At the outset, there are a couple of things you should know about me: one, I am not sentimental in strictly normal ways, and two, I have a bathrobe. A lot of people have bathrobes, I realize, but I...

Beauty is the Beast

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and only skin deep.  But vanity is to the bone.  Neck vertebrae C3 through C7, in my case. I've been out of commission of late with this sometimes ser...

Life is very long

Life is very long.  People will say it's too short to drink cheap wine and too short to waste on jackasses, or holding a grudge.  But really, these are just words to gloss over uncomfortable...

Sheltered children

I've been in Washington, DC for the past few days. I grew up there and was, until the age of 24, a pedestrian and public transportation kinda girl. I was with my two daughters, ages 8 and 4, and real...

Secret Admirer

I shared a cigarette with a friend the other night.  He doesn't think I should write this piece; thinks it might be bad for impressionable kiddies.  So, kiddies, first off there is no amou...

If A Tree Falls

A tree fell yesterday.  Several of them, in fact.  And three people died within a four minute walk of my house.    I never heard a thing.   A Cessna 182 crashed almost in my...
