DUSTY GROOVE
“A cool combo from the Italian scene -- The sound here is a great mix of modern club jazz and older 60s modes -- played in styles that recall the sound of Prestige or Riverside from years back, but which also tunes the rhythms towards some of the more contemporary modes explored by the best underground jazz groups of the European scene of late!â€

“This Italian duo meshes tasteful, modern production with incredible live’ playing, and the result is a joyous celebration of jazz artistry. The grooves are a hipster’s paradise, yet the overall sound is accessible to everyone. It’s one of the top CDs in my stack by a band that I’d love to see in a smoky club, with a neat martini in one hand and a sloppy cigar in the other. Picks: Mr. Rhodes, Offside, Una Masâ€.
...RECENSIONI...
"DO IT!" is the title of the BERARDI JAZZ CONNECTION’s new CD; after the positive reaction to their first album, "THE WAY I LIKE", which received gratifying response not only in Japan but in Italy, Europe and the USA, Francesco Lomagistro (drums) and Ettore Carucci (piano) re-surface with 12 brand-new tracks. The main thrust of this album is freedom of expression without precluding any styles, but with a determination and style that characterize the BJC’s sound. The album opens with "Last Night A Cat Stopped Me", a composition by leader Lomagistro, who opens the dances with a piece where frenzied Latin rhythm alternates with swing and a sound typical of the ’sixties’-style quintet, followed by "F.D.P." along the same stylistic lines but with a more modern approach ... Three tunes are sung, with the splendid voice of Paola Arnesano who this time contributes two of her own compositions: "O prazer de ser" and "Lies"; and the new name from America, Wendy Lewis, who loans her warm and engaging timbre to a well-known 1980’s tune of Tears for Fears, a band to which the BJC wanted to pay homage by recording their "Change"... "Le sere" e "The renegade", compositions of co-leader Carucci, definitely bring us to a more intimate sound, where the elements of "interplay" stand out for the close affinity between musicians. "To Brian", is a drummer’s tribute by Lomagistro to a "colleague" who inspired him in recent years, namely Brian Blade , star of the new international jazz drumming. "Friendly" written for four hands, Carucci’s "Play kid", "Relax" of Vincenzo Presta, and "The Jody Grind" of the great Horace Silver open the way to the funk and soul aspects of the band ...
