I remember the first time hip hop grabbed my attention. I was eighteen years old, livin in Minnesota, the artist was NOTORIOUS B.I.G. I even remember the line, "c-4 to ya door no beef no more". Before that day I listend to music the way most do, jammin to tha beat not really care'n what was being said. When I opend my ears, I was totally impressed with the way BIG used his words to get his point across. From that point on I was instantly addicted! At that time I related more to the west coast side of hip hop than the east. Not because of the gangsta side of it but the hustler side and the struggel to make a better life for myself and familly, I could respect that. I never thought back then I would be an mc! years passed, in november of ninty-eight I moved back to New Mexico, I moved in with my brother Malachi. We were livin in a two bedroom apartment on central. Around the same time Sin Rock was also move'n back from Hawaii, after being in the army for two years. My brother was working with Element One on what would be his first solo album. Every morning while I was getting ready for work, I'd hit play on the VS-880 and listen to the new HOT shit they were make'n. I was always impressed, so much so it began to inspire me. I wrote my first rhyme at the age of twenty, the feeling was incredible. I spit the verse for sin and we decided to rock a track. The name of the song was EPIDEMIK, shit was raw! I showed that song to everyone I knew and probably listend to it about a hunderd times in a row. It lit a fire inside me, it was like it was always there just never the right time, until now! Shortly after I started write'n we formed the cru URBAN COUNCIL. U.C. was MALACHI, ELEMENT ONE, SIN ROCK, BIG J, POLTERGIEST, ONSLOT, and myself. At that time I went by JOHN QUEST, a name given to me by the guys in the cru. The Council was the illest, nothing but good times, we got together daily to vibe and wreck tracks. Over the years we rocked many shows together, pay'n due's and learning the game. Though U.C. is not working together at the present time, we're all still family and you never know what the future holds. After U.C. MALACHI, SIN ROCK, POLTERGIEST, and my self, came up with the idea to form a production company, which we would later name BIG JOHNSIN PRODUCTIONS. These days I go by TRUTH, I was never totaly comfortable with the name my cru gave me. As I developed my style, I started looking for a name that fit who I am. The word truth means, the real state of things, honest, that wich is true, established fact. To me theres no beter word to describe my style of hip hop. I rhyme about reality, not fantasy, I write from expirience! over my years I've lived in four different states and six different cities, I've met alot of people and made alot of friends. I've always been the kind of person that cool with everyone. The one thing I learned is that most people are the same no matter were you go, we're all play'n the same game. Because I speak from life expirience, I think more poeple can relate to what I'm say'n. I LOVE HIP HOP!!! With or without the money or recognition I will continue to due what I love!
