ANWAR is a trio from Zürich playing straight and dirty rock music. Influenced by bands and musicians such as REEF, Lenny Kravitz, THE ROLLING STONES or DANKO JONES they combine these roots with their own rough garage sound and hooks that you won´t get out of your head.Born in Egypt and grown up in different places in Germany, the drummer, guitarrist and singer Anwar finally went to Berlin at the end of the 90s to join the 70s rock band ELECTRIC LIZARD playing congas. After the split of the band in 2003 he went to Switzerland, and having started writing own songs some years before, he then completed them and started to search for other musicians to form a band.After several trials, more or less by accident in 2005 an old friend of Anwar came to Switzerland too. It was Jan, a bass player, who before played with the alternative rock band NOSPOON from Hamburg, and whom Anwar met with 10 years ago in Bielefeld playing together for some time. They started to jam the songs and soon it became obvious that they both were still in tune and had the same musical vision.So the next step was to search for a drummer who would add a heavy rocking beat to the songs. And they finally found one in the midth of 2006: Ernst, who also plays Jazz and Salsa stuff, but now wanted to do some other kind of music: simple and straight rock music.
