There was a fast progression from “Waking the Fallen†to “City of Evil†albums, but it was one of those things where Avenged wanted to expand everywhere because they weren’t happy. They wanted to make it gritty and little dirtier, more attitude based. They would sit there and try to get different textures out of Matt's voice and he went to vocal training with Ron Anderson.
“I think it’s going to be weird for a lot of our fans, but it’s definitely what we were going for.†says M. Shadows. “We’re not the type of band that’s going to worry about what everyone is going to think about us. If we did that, we’d end up writing a metalcore record. If we did another record like Waking The Fallen and sold a million records, none of us would be happy. We just wanted to release a record that we felt comfortable with. We wanted to write something that we could call a creative metal record. We took a lot of different things musically and combined them into one record and that’s all we wanted to do. Wouldn't it be cool if there actaully was a university for Avneged Sevenfol?? I think so. But if there was it wouldn't be like a real university like Harvard it would be like a little club or something were you go and learn about Avenged, kinda like a music lesson or something, right? Well anyway that's enough about that, Sevenfold University has classes: Johnnyology, Vengonomics, Mat-Matics, Synyster Studies, and Reverendarts, I don't teach those but i own them (they are classes at sevenfold uni. which is ran ran by me (Crystal) and only me, but i do have a couple of people that help me out sometimes!! We have contests and once a week i post a fact about A7X. I will be starting a thing called story time and you will have one month to write a story about the picture i post, if that doesn't make any sence then tell me i will try to explain it better. I will probably, most likely be sending out the "Welcome" message again, if you never got one tell me and i will gladly send it to you =]"I think you gotta have balls to be an Avenged fan sometimes. A lot of our fans get hated on just as much as us. To me Avenged fans aren't just fans of a band, they are fans of everything that surrounds it, like a lifestyle. We live it, you live it. You go to the shows and you can feel it. It's a great experience and people that aren't involved will never understand. So they can stand on the sidelines and talk, but we will just continue to do what makes us all happy."
