About Me

Max Thomson got his start in the audio field at age 13 when he began designing customized sound effects for PC games such as Counter-Strike and many other popular Half-Life modifications. His expertise in the studio and love for electronic music quickly led him to DJing, which he picked up full time at age 15. By 17, Max was making a big dent in the local Boston dance scene by playing at venues such as I/D, Vertigo, and Venu while promoting and managing talent for Avalon Boston. Max’s promotion abilities then landed him the position of music journalist for iVibes.nu, one of the most widely read dance music websites. Around this time, he also started working as a progressive house specialist for the now defunct Satellite Records, which at the time was the sole independent vinyl record store in Boston.
In 2005, Max left Boston to pursue a Communications degree at Lake Forest College while simultaneously working towards an MBA in Music Business & Production from Columbia College Chicago. Max now splits his time between the classroom and the studio in both Boston and Chicago. His eclectic style is constantly being advanced through his education and the diverse selection of music he has access to from his many contacts in the dance music industry. Max continues to write reviews for iVibes.nu and promotes worthwhile talent through his A&R position at Morrison Recordings.

Sounds Like: A really great DJ is totally capable of making a bad record sound okay, a good record sound great, and a great record sound fantastic-by the context they put them in, and what they put around them. A great DJ can make people cheer just for a little squelchy noise. Which is quite insane really. If its done really well, it can be quite transcendental...
