-----------------------------------
NATHAN FOLEYNathan Joel Foley was born in Liverpool, Australia on the 27th of September 1979, already born with a set of vocal chords that would Fill an Entertainment Centre.
Nathan has been captivating audiences since the tender age of 10. Those in the entertainment industry considered him as a child prodigy with a stage presence that belied his years. Nathan is a seasoned performer, with his polished and professional performances resulting from years of hard work and dedication.
His amazing talent along with his experience in the entertainment industry has paved the way for a bright and exciting future for the performer.
His early years were full of music played on the radio by his parents, listening to Stevie Wonder, Lionel Ritchie and John Farnham; he knew that he loved what he had heard, yet he had no idea that he would be an entertainer today. My parents would play the radio all the time and I loved listening to Stevie Wonder, it was amazing, even though I was young, I loved to sing along and groove in my baby seat in the back of the car. I heard that when I was 2 years old, we were on holidays and there was a band playing where we were staying and apparently I jumped up on stage and started dancing in front of them, Gee, I hope I had clothes on Ha Ha
Entertaining wasnt always what Nathan had in mind, he had all this energy and didnt know what to do with it(His parents say), We enrolled him in soccer and he liked it, we enrolled him Australian Rules and he liked it, We enrolled him in karate and he liked it, but there was always something missing, he was just a kid but you could see that he wasnt fulfilled
I played soccer for a while and Aussie rules and it was fun to play, but obviously not for me, One day I was out with my folks, I was 5 years old and saw this second hand shop, so I begged my folks to have a look inside, cause it had a stack of old vinyl records in the front, well, I saw this little boy on the front of one of the vinyl records, it was Michael Jackson and a Jackson 5 album, so I just had to have it, I played that record so much that I tried to mimic little Michael as much as I could, Right then I knew what I wanted to do.. (Sing), if little Michael could do it, then little Nathan could as well.
Nathan sang for friends and neighbours till he was 9 years old then his mother saw an opening for a vocal contest in a shopping centre close by.
I entered Nathan in this Vocal contest, not knowing what to expect and not knowing how he would go, I knew he loved to sing and that was the only reason we entered him in the contest in the first place, (to sing). He never held a microphone or performed on stage like this before, we were nervous for him, until he opened his mouth to sing- Wind beneath my wings.
I was excited to get up on stage and sing, Strangely, I wasnt nervous, I loved singing so much that as soon as I had a microphone in my hand, it felt like I was home.
The crowd went wild that day, I guess they had never heard a voice come out of a little body like that before, we were so proud for him, Nathan came second place in that contest to an 18 year old singer, and from that time on we would support him 100% in what he loved to do(perform).
Nathan went on to win several vocal contests that year and being only 9 and 10 years old at the time he was gaining more and more experience as he went, His father and I didnt know what else to do with Nathan other than vocal contests and charity work, He used to sing for the charity Camp Quality and go to the local senior citizens home and sing 3 or 4 songs for the seniors every few weeks and he never complained, they all wanted to take him home for bake dinners I think, Though the question was, What else do you do with a 10 year old performer?
I was having fun, I finally found what I wanted to do, I guess Im really lucky in that way cause I found it so early in my life.
There was a singer called Carter Edwards who gave Nathan his first opportunity to sing with a band at a club when he was 10, We had to sneak him in through the back door cause security wouldnt let him in being under age, he was the surprise guest, and even a surprise to Carter Edwards I think, He had never met Nathan and he had never heard Nathan, It was all through word of mouth that Carter had booked him for the gig, Well, Carter introduced Nathan to come out, and the audience probably expected to see someone a little older to walk out, but no, Nathan walked out in his little black suit opened his mouth and stole the show that day, it was like he was reincarnated from Sammy Davis Jr, He had the audience in the palm of his hand.
Still to this day Nathan visits Carter and has guest appearances on his show, even with his busy schedule, he never forgets where he comes from and is a very loyal human being
One day Nathan was singing in a shopping centre in Roselands Sydney, after he got off stage we drove all the way back up to the Central Coast where we lived at the time and we received a phone call from the producer of the Coca Cola Schools Spectacular saying that they just saw Nathan performing at the centre and asked whether he was available to audition, I thought, do we have to drive Nathan all the way down to Sydney just for a school concert? Until I found out that the Coca Cola Schools Spectacular was one of the biggest arena shows in the world performing to 12000 people per night over for 3 shows, Well, we drove down and Nathan ended up auditioning.
He got the job and ended up singing From a Distance as a duo at 11 years old to 12000 people, He went on to be a featured soloist for 7 years with the show, and the Premiers Gala Concert as a soloist the following year.
The Schools Spectacular was amazing, just to walk out into the Sydney Entertainment Centre and perform to 12000 people with a band and Orchestra will stay in my memories forever.
Nathan Foley went on to take every opportunity to perform, with many Solo performances on the Channel 9 Midday Show with Kerry Anne, and the At Home Show with John Mangos On Channel 7, and winning many awards through his talent and contribution to the Entertainment Industry.
There was a crossroads that I had to face when I was 17, I was in year 11 at the time, and I auditioned and was chosen for the part of Asher and understudy lead of Joseph in Joseph and His Amazing Technicolored Dream Coat that was going to tour Overseas, I maybe silly but I turned it down feeling at 17 that I wasnt quite ready to leave for 6 months as I wanted to finish High School. As fate would have it, if I chose to head overseas, I wouldnt have been in Australia for the Hi-5 Auditions.
At just 26 years of age Nathan is a keen and great writer of songs from Pop/Rock and Soul, writing and producing his own solo 15 track album Discovery and his recent C.d singles Live Your Life & Say You Will that have had great response in Australia and Overseas.
He has been a successful entertainer for 8 years as a singer/presenter/songwriter for the Childrens show Hi-5 (Nine Network Australia), which is aired in 83 Countries worldwide and still continues his solo work with corporate functions, charity events, television and band work
Talking to Nathan is truly an inspiration with his focused attitude and love for his work and the people who support him,
He loves the simple things in life from hanging at home watching DVDs and listening to music, to spending time with his family and loved ones
Nathan Loves V8s and riding his motorbike & karting when hes not working.
He is a very grounded human being.
After nearly 17 years in the Industry, Nathan Foley is a force to be reckoned with and no doubt you will hear more from him in many years to come.
Life is full of opportunities, everything that I have done has led to where I am today, through support, hard work, talent and most importantly a good attitude.
If you know what you want in your life and believe and work at it enough, you will succeed.
