About Me
SINGER, SONGWRITER, PRODUCER
Born in Liberia, West Africa, raised in 5 other African countries, life for Rochelle was always full of change. By 16, when she first moved to the United States, she had lived in 7 countries, traveled to over a dozen, spoke French and English fluently, had met people from nearly every continent on the planet and moved over 20 times. She was used to change, but the one thing that remained unmovable was her love and passion for music. Growing up there was always music around.
"My dad loved music and he had a collection of so many different types of music from different time periods it was ridiculous. And so I remember spending hours just submerging myself into all these different sounds and trying to immitate them." Pretty early on she knew she loved singing and that she was good at it. No one else did because she kept to herself. As she got into her teens she kept getting better, and her voice matured.
It wasn't until college that she realized she could do more than just sing and actually started writing entire songs. With the support of a very dear friend, she got a start producing tracks for fun. "Slowly I began to notice things about myself like how almost every time I step out the door, I find a beat in sounds around me...feet stompin, doors shutting, traffic, kids playing, just whatever."
She started working on THE HEAT WAVE in 2005. "It took me so long because most of my songs deal with things that are personal to me and I just have to feel inspired. I can't write about anything that is not real to me, that I don't stand for, or that I wouldn't see myself doing or saying in life situations." It is this realness in her lyrics that makes Rochelle's music so relatable; each song speaks to the truths about life, love, joy, heartbreak, and more. With the exception of 2 or 3 songs on her album projected to be released in late 2007, she produces the music, performs and arranges all the vocals, and writes all the lyrics. "That's just how personal this is to me."
Why THE HEAT WAVE? Rochelle was born and raised in Africa, 100% African and she's bringing heat from the other side of the world. This solo R&B album mingles the wide array of musical styles she grew up with and is different from what everyone else has out there because she does not confine her music to one particular genre. As you get the chance to hear the different songs on THE HEAT WAVE, you'll hear the influence of eastern music, African music, reggae, jazz, pop, neo-soul, and more.
"With all that being said I hope you enjoy what you hear and I appreciate any feedback. So stay on the look out for my album THE HEAT WAVE!!"
Much Love
Rochelle
