About Me

10 songs about life.Eran James, the genuine soul voice, was ready - again - to make good on the superlatives. It was three years since Eran's debut album Reviewing The Situation, and, suddenly - deservedly - the world's best record makers were taking notice.Jay Newland (Norah Jones) and Tom Nichols (Celine Dion) would produce Eran's new album.Jesse Harris (Norah Jones), Phil Galdston (Vanessa Williams), Andy Marvel (Celine Dion), Wayne Hector (Westlife) and Daryl Hall would co-write songs.“I have grown, I have evolved, and I wanted to show that change,” Eran says.“The first record was a stepping stone but it had the mind frame that I am here to make real music. With that known, I felt free to take the next album wherever I wanted.“I wanted soul elements, but pulled back. I wanted pop elements, but nothing obvious. Less is more.”Eran James was set. Then tragedy struck.10 songs about loss.Eran's mother, Wendy - his best friend, supporter and champion - passed away on August 3, 2006, after a brave fight with cancer.“I was depressed, I was down, I was out,” Eran says. “My dad is a hard worker who provides well for our family. But my mum took me to singing lessons, rehearsals and gigs, and had a real passion for what I do.”Amid the darkness, Eran relocated from his Melbourne home to New York City to complete his record with Newland and Nichols.Understandably, new songs like Halo and We Can, took on deeper meaning as Eran struggled with grief.“I don't want to leave, whatever is a part of you must be a part of me,'' Eran intones, tenderly, on the latter track, soul elements pulled back, his pop lean not-too-obvious.Eran James, now 18, has grown. Less definitely is more.“I was trying my best to cope with all these feelings. But I knew I had to carry on for my mum,” Eran says.He held firmly to his mother's last wish.“Keep doing what you do,” she told him. “I want you to be a singer. I want you to have your dream. Don't stop for anything in the world.”10 songs about light. The New York experience was surreal.Newland, who helmed Norah Jones' 20-million-selling debut album Come Away With Me, described Eran as the authentic article, the real deal. . Eran collaborated with pop and soul craftsmen who hits include Don't Know Why, I Can't Go For That and Save The Best For Last. His session musicians included players for Amos Lee, Herbie Hancock, Branford Marsalis, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Luciano Pavarotti, Bob Dylan, Al Green and Jeff Buckley.“I was extremely blessed. But I didn’t want to think too much about who these people had worked with. I didn’t want to freak out,” Eran laughs.“I wanted to do my thing, represent what I do, and together, hopefully, we’d make a hot record.”Eran performed in the Big Apple. One night, he converted a notoriously hard-to-please New York club with his opening note of a notoriously hard-to-sing Donny Hathaway classic. The crowd roared for an encore. Indeed, Eran James didn’t stop for anything in the world. And new songs like Touched By Love, The Other Side Of Love, You Know When It Feels Right and World At Your Feet, reflect that onward journey.“It's like each songwriter picked my brain or something,” Eran smiles. “Every emotion, every feeling - they had me pegged.”Accordingly, his new album is based on that most truthful emotion, the most honest feeling to get Eran James through the darkest times. It is titled:10 Songs About Love.
