Living in the zone of the in-betweens

About Me

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I'll meet you there...
I believe I can do anything... so I do.
I believe I can imagine anything... so I do.
I know that anything I imagine is already real, and so it is.

..Can I just say YouTube is pretty cool... I am seeing things I havent seen in years right now...
Natas, thanks for ruling it back then...
The guy who intros my part is Johnny Schillereff, an am for New Deal, later my rap partner and assistant at Element, later took Element to its current status...
And that's me rapping to the first song I made with Lil Jon:
And maybe the first switch stance handrail on video? Am I claimin' some sh@t or what?
Show at XLARGE Gallery Dec 07...
Interview I dont remember from what seems like a long time ago, judging by my mustache I definitely had a little Captain in me at the time...Its got some pretty good stories from back in the day...
Skateboard Fieber exhibit with Jeremy Fish and sick Euro cats like Stefan...
The dinasaur jr song is an old favorite, guess it's always been a freak scene for me...
Howell vs Woebot in Honolulu timelapse at the end
Me and Davilock from Spain did this little show with Staf Mag in Malaga which was really fun, we also did a big collab called "Bad Ideas" which turned out sick. Davi you crazy! I had be phasing on these very tribal characters whose really different characteristics are now being integrated into alot of my current work...
Peace Pep! Hope you are enjoying the next dimension...
Okay enough fantasy... back to reality...
on final approach landing in a soft green patch after barely clearing the rooftops and cheery neighbors managing sizzling meaty treats with grilling tool... Now everyone's laughing when some freak does a Gaynor off the roof into the pool, the shirt said i do my own stunts, i'd buy that for a dollar. Who's the benefactor on that silver dolla??? Guess it coulda been my naked Ibiza backflip into the chateau pool from 2001, but probably the dive-tuck-roll combination utilized in a half-naked going away party. Sergio line up the Frenette shots again, this train is setting sail...Independence is the key, self sustain, self sufficient, never self-entitled. There are only so many of us that are constantly jumping in head first, from a rope swing... Last year I went on safari to Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, hiked with the mountain gorillas in Rwanda, one of 'em reached out and touched me. No shit, missing link type shit...97% of our DNA identical...
in the words of the infamous Yamamoto...sometimes it could get weird...
Marvin, Kevin, Dylan, and Andy... Pokerheadz in tha LJC ,br/
Ginger and Mom in front of the boutique...
At 0630 i jump off the rocks at sunset cliffs into a chilly green room, all silly and freezing ice cream headaches til the adrenaline starts pumpin'. i look to my left to see a close friend take off down the line on an overhead steam engine barreling through pre-dawn haze. Just like four urethane wheels clickity clackin' over sidewalks crackin', the same rush, only using nature's power over manmade madness this time. There's always something below the surface, some interesting conversation with destiny, like an eighty mile per hour 500 hp dune buggy with a Corvette motor rolling, it's tin top peeling like a sardine can. Sand in our eyes, time stands still as I wonder how I am gonna pull myself outta this thing upside down? Finally slowing the slide, we flip back over and bounce to a stop, brains reeling round the fear and adrenaline. 'is everyone okay?' yeah sort of, in shock, but alive, with a kink in my neck.
wish i was home, curled up with Ginger and Boobins in the bed watching Brazil or House of Games or something. An hour later they find us in the dark, me still hunting down my sentimental flip flop I bought in Amsterdam earlier in the year. No Gods No Masters... shoot, hand me a can of spraypaint and some jet black India ink so's I can spread the love through other methods, mixed media, slightly mediocre, favorite medium, medium rare, rarely come out of the right side of my brain, stay in the zone of the in-betweens.
Enjoying the journey, shoot, cuz what else could I do, boy named Sue, this is how I do. This is how I done did my whole life through. Interesting, or not really. Just another camptown chicken revival, complete with the famous Carne Asada Dancers from El Segundo. I stay in San Diego mostly now, roof top devil's nest, sometimes we never come down, insulated from it all, connected nonetheless...
Ma$$ Prophets circa 1992: Lil' Jon (yes the same one), me (HBOMB43), Sleepy Shaun aka D•Money the Scratchaholic, Johnny Schillereff aka Johnny Quest who is now president of Element Skateboards, Matt B Tha Child Prodigy, J•Sun the Beatmaker... totally abstract... oh yeah the blurreeed guy in the back is Kinsey, artiste extraordinaire... ATL represent represent!!!!
Thanks Patricia, glad it found the right home...
How RIDICULOUS is this? Peace Y'all Brooklyn Projects!!

.. ART UPDATE for Clark Magazine, Paris...
My show opened in LA to the sounds of sick music and twisted visuals. A mixture of straight-suited collectors, skaters, designers, and established artists were on hand to enjoy the show and the ensuing festivities. In attendance were Dave Kinsey, Sam Flores, Ginger Che, Freddi C, Ted Newsome (American Misfits), Zach Mandelstein (eggprojects), Anthony Yamamoto (Quiksilver), Persue (COD), and various other crazy characters of ill repute. The after party with Sam Flores and Paul got a little hairy when shots of Teguila came out of the bar. Ben Tour showed up after his opening and kept asking my pregant wife Ginger if she wanted a shot. Sam, me, Evan Carasoli, Paul, and Ben all pounded shots until I got up on the benches and started dancing. Ginger's remark, "Oh no, it's happening Sam, in five minutes his weiner will be out!" Sam's response: "I'll put my balls on the table." Thats how it wuz and thats how it is...(photos to follow)

Heroes:

anyone whose passion for life or craft inspires me to push through my own fear and limits
From Transworld Skateboarding Brain Floss 1995
Intro, Written by: Jose Gomez (Emmy Award winning Founder of Shilo Studios, co-creator of Rhythm Skateboards and Adio Shoes)
“I first met Andy in the summer of 1991. And what a meeting it was. Being that he was was one of my favorite pros and by far one of my favorite artistS at the time , you can imagine how nervous I was to meet him. I thought he would be a little full of himself since he was so on top of his game. But I was to be proven wrong, from the first time we hung out together he was one of the most down to earth people I’d had ever met. We soon became close friends and I got to see how much more creative he was than I could had ever imagined. He got me started in this crazy business in that same year with a job at New Deal doing skateboard graphics with him and our friend Gorm Boberg. The next four years that followed being there working with him were some of the best years of my life. Andy always inspired me to do things I thought I couldn’t do, things I thought I’d never do. He used to always say stuff like “ Hey Jose don’t you feel like directing some music videos ,we could make the dopest shit, come on let’s call MTV”. And some how he would have the craziest shit set up for us that following week. Who knows how he hooked it up but he would always come through with the opportunities of a life time. That’s the kind of stuff that Andy gets a rush out of, doing something that he has never done before and doing it better than anyone else before him, not just to be better than anyone else but just to see if he could do it. That’s the kind of attitude that spawns the most powerful creative feeling in someone, doing or creating something not just to please people or to try to do better than the next guy but doing it and creating it for yourself just to see if you can and nine times out of ten you can. And that’s what it’s all about being as creative as possible .Creating something from nothing that’s the rush. And that’s what Andy is best at: finding that rush, that feeling and passing it on to you if you what to join in. An artist in the truest sense. Andy Howell, my friend.”
"Since the start, style and sophistication sets the approach for all of Andy's angles." -Victor Chu, New York City (designer Tommy Jeans, designer Polo Jeans, East Coast Correspondent Sputnik Comm, creator of tommorow’s clothing communication)
“Andy has been an inspiration since I first saw him skate at the Savannah Slamma 2 in 1988; soon I became aware not only of his creativity as a skateboarder but also as a visual artist. Andy almost single handedly ushered in Hip-Hop and Graffiti as the ruling aesthetic of skateboarding through his artwork for New Deal, Underworld Element, and Sophisto, as well as his personal style as a pro skateboarder. Needless to say, with his ambition and amazing skills as an illustrator and graphic designer the H-Bomb has been quite influential; I wouldn’t be where I am as an artist without him. Thanks Andy.” -Shepard Fairey, Los Angeles CA (creator of the OBEY and GIANT phenomena, Black Market Communications, Visionary)
“Andy is one of the most eccentric artists of our generation, his ability to take street elements and personify that realism through animation is incredible.” -Dallas Austin (Grammy Award winning Producer and Songwriter, Visionary)
“Andy exudes a sense of individual style into everything he touches...Music...Skating...Design...Life itself. He has an understanding of real life and expresses that in the things he does and says.” -Michael Higgins, Atlanta (Creative Visual Director, Design Coup, Inc, ATL)
“Andy Howell is an imaginative and creative person. He jumped out into the public’s eye and made an impact in skateboarding with his creative & stylish use of his skateboarding abilities. Then a few years later he put his artistic abilities to use as the creative partner in New Deal Skateboards. There he put his creativity into skateboards, T-shirts, advertising, Videos, etc. Andy’s art inspired many a skateboarder in the early 90's to go out and have fun on a skateboard.” -Paul Schmitt (Master Skateboard Builder, Owner New Deal Skateboards, PS Stix Manufacturing, 411 Video Magazine, Element Skateboards, Mad Circle Skateboards)
"Through my years of progression as an artist, Andy has been an inspiration for technique and determination in testing my skills and pushing my thoughts and ideas into reality."-Dave Kinsey, Los Angeles CA (designer Black Market)
"Andy puts a different spin on everything, gives things another dimension, and a new perspective. He uses all sorts of elements from pop and skating culture to come up with intelligent, creative ideas. We've been working and sharing ideas together for about six years now and it never ceases to amaze me what Andy brings to the mix." -Camara Alford (President of UOMO Entertainment, VP International Rowdy Records).
Set it off:

All up on it, grab it like you want it,

if you could wear a dick bitch

You would flaunt it..

Round 1:

Writing lines, only smoke da-kine,

Pumpin gold lines, some call it a crime

It's the Swiz, I'm chillin'

Drink a ton of milk, cuz I'm top billin

Of course you're willin to listen

and dismissin, yourself

Put your career back down on that dusty shelf

Where ya found it

Only 9 months ago

your phony career was born

So slap yo self with that premature ego

You bite rhymes and styles for miles

should start cuttin your own cloth

You shoulda stayed lost in the closet

ya cloth-eatin moth

Your a slow, sloppy sloth

Must be tired from always gettin shut down

Like Basquiat, I wear the crown

Round 2:

You wear a crown to think you're down clown

Au contrair mon frair you gots no flair

Your Swizzle stick Wilt's like Chamberlain

Or a chamber maid riding the tip of the killer of Slick Rick

Conficted Compacted your trash like Cuisinart

'Oh he's an ARTiste' (oooooh) yes smooth like a fart

Bubbling in the tub while I scrub I stretch the nub

Or nib nib nibble on my nuts cuz your rhyme is cut

Like Kurt the master mix master disaster twister

Get a blister Fester testing my dome now ya listed

BLACK balled like Blacks Beacher and your blue balled

Like a daydreaming scheming student of the teach.

GAME

WORD

H43

Round 3:

Oh, I see your Tinker Toy ploy

You gots no joy for the world-

that Im runnin like Pre Fontaine

Leap over you on Lane 1 with a sorry sprain

Rocking Asics, no swoosh

No need to associate to gets a push

Crush bush, your brain is mush

Mine designed for fame

You don't deserve to mention Mix Master Kurt's name

Maybe Kurt..Cobain, your styles grungy and dead

My flow hurts your tiny head

Your scared of this battle

Catch a bus back to Seattle so start askin for change

I fine dine while you WINCE and WINE and watch

your widowed wife sell them to the world in a journal

You old spilt milk that curdled

Swept up, shoulda kept up in Atlanta back in 88

when you fell off the quarter pipe in Savannah

-witness.

Round 4:

Fell off? Meltin'?

Bitch try I'm still standin' like Elton

Beltin' verse like Morrisey crawlin out of a hearse

Disperse while I reverse the curse

And send you and your bitch ass crew back to October 1st

Rehearse, spit game, record, hit play

Watch you decay with dismay the way you gets no airplay

My flow cuts your nuts off like rusty Ginsu

I been through crusty Twizzlers way worse than you.

BooHoo my voodoo unscrew the plugs in ya hairdo

While ya crew blew every dude I ever knew

You ended up with sore lips like worn hand grips

BMX bitch ass your rumors keep spreadin'

Spreadin clap on tap ya need ta slap a trap

on that rap and flush that shit out like a crap

What's the hap? Dreamer, nothin but a dreamer,

Swizz take your finger out your ass you ho...

Uh oh, he's gone vanished dead already?

Sliced 'im up like Ono and I vanished like Freddy...

Round 5:

The bell goes ding ding and I'm dancin on your face like Travolta

Takin multiple shots like a Minolta.

I told ya, like a folder I fold ya.

Break you down and re-mold ya cuz I like your resilience

But always falling flat when up against this brilliance

Verbal bathing leaving you in disdain,

open the gate to your new house of pain

Wutcha do with yourself all day, lift weights, be gay, wearing skirts?

Try to look good in the club with your fitted black shirt?

Your busy blowin dick, burpin up giz.

I'm busy blowin horns at the spot like Diz

YOUR crew? Look around fool,

your alone, it's just you!

BMX I did, chrome moly Mongoose...What, you weren't a kid?

The only hand grips I wore were Haro's,

bustin tabletops over ya head into tomorrow.

Oops, I made you cry, go rollerblade home,

span style="mso-spacerun: yes&quo
