Trupa Aia

About Me

Aia is a band from Brasov (Romania) that had its origins in 1992 but has renovated itself thoughout the years. Their style lies somewhere between hard rock and melodic rock. The history of IA begins by the union of the remains of two earlier bands like SEISM (a 90-s heavy metal group with a slight speed influence) and ARZENÁL (heavy metal). In time the two bands fell apart, so among a few ex-members occurs the idea of a new group in order to have some good time and to escape from everyday stress. So in the year 2000 they begin the rehearsals without picking a name for the project and without any appearances on stage. For almost a year the new band moves on featuring the same members, adopting a heavy metal genre. In the same time the first ideas for a name begin to appear, but non of them being the final one. So Iulian (drums), Sebi (bass), Zolly (vocals, guitars), Sile (keyboards) begin to write songs and try to make their way in the local world of rock music. Their first and biggest problem at that time was the lack of a decent place to rehearse. Finally the band finds a strange way to deal with their major problems by using simple instruments, headphones, and replacing the drums with a microcontact system placed in the case of a video cassette played by fingers. And for that matter the amplifiers were built from the parts of a television set. Despite these inconveniences the will to continue with the new project grows stronger. In six or seven months the group rents a classroom in The Students Club in Scele near Braov. After appearing in a tv-show and in a local newspaper the four members are forced to pick a name. So from now they are called Trupa IA. Short after that, during the rehearsals the band meets the two future members: Levi (vocals) and Adi (keyboards), they being students at the same club. In a very short time these two are called to join the band so with slight adjustments the group looks like this: Levi (lead vocals), Zolly (lead guitar, vocals), Sile (rhythm guitar), Adi (keyboards), Sebi (bass), Iulian (drums). In the same year (2002) the recently formed band is being invited to the anniversary concert of the local Radio Braov, and so beginning to think about going in a professional direction, perfecting it fast. From that moment on the group begins to rewrite some of the old songs along with writing new ones. The genre adopted by them is a melodic hard rock (trying to continue the style which was used by older Romanian groups like Iris, Compact, Holograf, Semnal M, Riff, Cargo). As time goes by, the band shows a great progress in professionalism and then appears the need for the release of a first album. So in the autumn of 2003 IA enter a studio to record the new project entitled Primul Pas (The First Step). This will be the new album which contains ten songs. This album appears in limited edition in March 2004 at Târgul de muzic i carte in Braov with the help of Radio Special. In 2005 the bands management is being taken over by Adrian Cioiu along with Mircea Vlean as the impresario.
