FABLE SOUNDSYSTEM

Roots reggae & Dub

About Me

MyGen Profile Generator
Welcome to Fable Soundsystem on Myspace. Fable grew from the strong tradition of reggae music that has existed in Southall, West London, for decades. Emerging from a locally stagnant period, the movement began in 2003 when we organised a string of dances at Southall Community Centre as a reaction to a five-year absence of roots reggae dances in the area. These self-promoted events were played out on hired soundsystems but eventually ceased as we decided to take time out and build a soundsystem of our own. Crucially, they helped stimulate a roots revival in Southall since which many prolific soundsystems have been attracted back to the area including Jah Shaka, Aba Shanti I, Word Sound and Power, Jah Observer, Entebbe, Fairshare Unity and King Earthquake as well as distinguished selectors such as Russ Disciple, Eastern Sher and Steve Vibronics. This renewed momentum also gave way to a new generation of locally-sourced soundboys and selectors, most notably Roots Youth, Jassy Rankin, King Alpha, Eastern Vibration and Creation Warrior along with ourselves.
Having spent much of our youth in dancehalls, Fable was inspired by UK reggae soundsystem culture coupled with an insatiable appetite for collecting roots and dub records. Avoiding the usual box-builders whom many sounds employ (but primarily to save money), we built the bulk of the soundsystem ourselves in Southall. The result is a highly customized rig with greater sentimental value than most. We do not believe that a massive initial investment should be put into soundsystem as we recognise that we can- and should- not have more than our means allow. We prefer to see the sound grow organically as it has done from the start and remain unaffected by those around us. The sound is founded on our principles of what and how reggae music should be dispensed.
Massive respect to all the soundsystems & selectors who inspired Fable and the producers & artists who give it reason for being !!
