Thanos Amorginos was born in Athens, 1973. At age twelve, he took Spanish guitar lessons. In 1989 he began working for a PA company, gradually getting involved in sound engineering. Before his eighteenth birthday, he joined legendary Greek band The Last Drive on guitar. For the next five years, he toured constantly with the band, recording two albums (‘Fuckhead Entropy’, Hitch Hyke Records, 1992, produced by Paul B. Cutler – of Dream Syndicate and 45 Grave fame – and ‘Subliminal’, BMG, 1994, co-produced by the band and Jim Spliff), until the group split in 1995. During that period, he produced seven inch singles for the Rockin’ Bones and Cosmic Teds.
In 1996, after being spotted by film director George Lazopoulos, he starred in the film ‘Medusa’ (Science Fiction Award at Houston Film Festival, 1996) as Perseus and appeared in several TV commercials. By 1996, he had entered the realm of computers, and began writing music for TV commercials.
In 1998, he joined forces once more with Alex K of The Last Drive and members of other established Greek bands (his brother Babi Bone and S. Pyros D of the Rockin’ Bones, Panos Tomaras of Honeydive and Engine-V, and Panos Mariolopoulos) to form The Earthbound, an electric/acoustic excursion, where he contributes percussion and electronics, along with guitar. So far, The Earthbound has released one seven-inch single (‘The Valley’ at Fractal Press, 1999) and three full-length cds (‘The Earthbound’, Trade Records, 2000, the ‘Stakaman’ OST, M Records, 2001, and ‘Brotherhood Of The Dog’, Sirius, 2004) all co-produced by the band and Jim Spliff.
Between 2000 and 2002, he also formed The Spacecakes, an electro-funk jam band that split after the sad and unexpected death of drummer Michalis Kamarikos without releasing any albums. In 2002, he produced the soundtrack of the film ‘Sose Me’ (Universal) by Stratos Tzitzis, at his home studio (Coffeeshop) with long-time collaborator Alex K, on which he also performed and handled engineering and programming duties. The song ‘Gia Ligo’ from that soundtrack contained a sample from a popular heart-rending love song from the 1950’s by Danae Stratigopoulou, and became a Greek radio staple. ‘Sose Me’ also included a song by The Spacecakes.
In 2004, he composed the original score and selected music for the play QED by Peter Parnell, staged by George Cotanidis, about Nobel prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman. The same year, he met DJ Blend and worked with him on two albums (‘Man Under Influence’, Sirius, 2005, and ‘Misplaced’, cast-a-blast, 2006) as studio and live guitarist and part mixing engineer.
In 2006, his original music for the film ‘Sleepwalker’ by Fine Arts’ student Eva Marathaki, was awarded the first prize at Micropolis Short Film Festival, organized by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.
During all these years, he has produced a huge amount of diverse, unreleased original music under the moniker Exquisite Corpse (a method invented by a group of surrealists in 1925 that incorporated random texts or images) and hopes one day to turn it into something more concrete, part of which will be presented alternately through myspace.
