About Me

A self-proclaimed visual poet, Corey Whitehead, is the true embodiment of the reincarnated artist. At the young age of five Corey began his love affair with artistry by churning out simple pencil drawings; he later elevated to pastel and charcoal drawings, portraits, and fashion shots. At fifteen this Joliet, IL native decided to cash in on his talents for the first time; selling hand drawn posters of pop idols to his classmates prove to be a lucrative business for this striving creator. In his twenties he began to work extensively with the airbrush technique; using it to personalize t-shirts, jackets, denim, etc. In 1997 Corey decided ti try his hand at Graphic Design so, he moved to Atlanta, GA where he attended The Art Institute; here he acquired the technical knowledge he needed to break into the corporate arena. Designing for Good News Magazine, Jezel, EnTouch, The Atlanta Business Journal, and a host of other magazines, journals, and companies, Corey has definitely left his mark on the world of graphic design and commercial advertising. In April of 2006, this fourth generational artist decided to go to his roots; returning to the fine arts side of things by picking up a paintbrush for the first time. He began experimenting with water color and immediately fell back in love with the art form he had watched his father perfect when he was young. After digging a little further he finally struck oil with his current passion and medium of choice. "I feel born again...", he proudly report when he speaks of his works with acrylics. Painting has given him an opportunity to expand creatively like never before. Now with his series of original paintings, Corey has begun to cultivate The Funky Soul Movement, an infusion of the artist's two passions: Visual Art and Music. "my goal is to make the viewer feel a song; to invoke the same emotion they feel when they listen to their music". Corey is dedicated to creating art that "feels good" and with just one look it is easy yo identify the passion he possesses for his art form and new business venture. Though it is impossible to predict what this ever-evolving artist will come up with next, one thing is for certain; regardless of it's medium or form, it's guaranteed to be FUNKY!
