Music that could function as a score for a film is the sort of stuff that has drawn Renard Tennessee of Dimenzional Shift for his whole life. “Ever since I was a kid, I have been drawn to music that sounds like it came from a movie.†He declares himself a child of the 80s and also a huge movie aficionado. These passions converge in his music, which presents itself as a history-conscious but future-focused burst of creative aural power. “When I hear a good song in a club or at an event, I have to release that energy by dancing hard and really feeling it.†Funny, but that’s exactly the kind of reaction Tennessee’s own music conjures in his listeners.
Inspiration
A variety of sources, both mystic and mundane, stand as influences for Dimenzional Shift’s dynamic music. “First and foremost I’m inspired by God.†It’s a deep well of inspiration and one that helps supply pure power to Tennessee’s songwriting. “That’s where the ‘zion’ in Dimenzional Shift comes from,†says Tennessee. He also points to high quality video game music as a catalyst for his interest in electronically generated music. But whatever his inspirations in the long run, the fan can be grateful that Tennessee’s interest was sparked – otherwise it would be a loss to the music community if it had never heard Dimenzional Shift.
The Artist at Work
“I do mostly instrumental stuff … composing notes and playing with sound to arrange it into the proper sequence to become hardcore dance beats and adrenaline-pumping ballads,†says Tennessee of his creative process. And he’s always in the studio tweaking his music and honing his talent. “I am in the studio almost every chance I get. My goal is to have enough really good tracks that I like by the end of the year to make a full CD.†He is currently working with A&R Select, the hottest indie A&R firm in Hollywood, CA.
