I KISSED A GIRL AND I LIKED IT.

About Me

SUPER LUCKY CATZ From an early age it was obvious Robert Andrew Gushel-Barron had a unique gift in singing and songwriting. , Robert’s powerful voice, strong stage presence, and unique lyrical conception has placed him on a roaring rocket headed for success. Robert’s first musical accomplishment was in 1994 at the age of 13 when he co wrote his first Christian album “Back Home” with Arland K. Finney, a Fresno local musician and producer. This early accomplishment was followed by a series of out of state performances, which helped develop Robert’s dynamic stage presence. Robert’s unique voice styling is a melting pot reminiscent of classic soul singers such as Stevie Wonder, Sam Cook, Marvin Gaye, and Ottis Redding. In 2002 Robert teamed with local Fresno drummer and guitarist Brandon Yukio. Yoshida to write a collaborative album they would label “The Songwriter’s Notepad”. The album was created to be a twelve song acoustic outline of Robert and Brandon’s early work. The two young musicians produced and composed a series of musical ideas as a rough draft. They hoped one day this piece would become a more full bodied piece of work, but due to the simplicity of the album, the two were unwilling to release it publicly. In 2003 after months of corrosion from family members and friends, Robert and Brandon released the “The Songwriter’s Notepad” to the public at a small, open mike venue in Fresno, CA. The two were no strangers to the stage, but found themselves very uncomfortable sharing their original music with the public; for fear of rejection. Despite their obvious anxiety, the two quickly took on a “make it or break it” attitude and flawlessly performed an original set in front of a mid-size crowd. The excitement flowed like a charge of electricity throughout the room. The crowd seemed to be hypnotized by the melodic landscapes the two young songwriters created on stage. Quickly, the two established themselves as the night’s most exciting act and were approached throughout the night by members of the audience. Robert and Brandon were very surprised at the response they received during and after their performance. Their new-found energy and passion for their craft, inspired them to take their project to the next level. As the year progressed, Robert and Brandon created a name for their project: The Super Lucky Catz. The unique name, coupled with their unique sound and stage presence, quickly put the Super Lucky Catz on top of Fresno’s underground music scene. The Fresno Bee wrote, “At least one thing is certain: The Super Lucky Catz are in-demand like pay-per-view. And a lot of it has to do with singer Robert Barron-Gushel, whose voice has been wowing people around town over the past couple months. Combine Gushel's pipes with Brandon Yoshida's guitar work and you get a duo of young musicians who are quickly making a name for themselves around town” .The Super Lucky Catz had found a way to make a home for their music in the hearts of their fans. Their positive lyrics and active involvement with their fans gave Super Lucky Catz their title “The People’s Band“. It seemed nothing was impossible for this super duo. The Super Lucky Catz had somehow found a way to play at everything from small coffee shops and night clubs to large scale theaters, concert halls, and college universities. Even though effective as a duo, The Super Lucky Catz felt they were missing the essential elements they needed to complete their sound . To help in their search, they enlisted the help of a local artist named Patrick Contreras to analyze the sound and style of the group. After what seemed to be endless auditions, the Super Lucky Catz finally felt they had found the right group of musicians: Quetzal "Beats" - (drums) The Shadow - (bass guitar), Jen Leon "The Lion" - (backup vocals ) and Auto Lee- (saxophone /flute ). Now with the proper band members in place, Robert and Brandon finally found the right combination of musicians to complete the Super Lucky Catz. The natural acoustic sound, teamed with the unique lyrical concepts and soul like feel, make The Super Lucky Catz the band they are today. The Super Lucky Catz’s goal has always been to write great songs and connect with their audience. Their positive outlook on life has made this band special in so many ways. Their lyrics are not just empty words to shadow a melody, but communicate stories of love, life, and perseverance in order to create a better world. The Super Lucky Catz do not just write songs say their fans, they write anthems.
