About Me

Shoko Matsumoto, a native of Japan has been living in New York since 1991. Shoko began writing music after she met Brazilian singer-songwriter and producer of Universal Music, "Soli" in 2001, who encouraged her to develop her talent. Ever since she started writing songs with the spontaneous impulse of her feeling, it was her dream to have her own show in New York. She thought about every conceivable detail about how it should sound and look. On February 14th 2004, she made her singing debut at Hiroko's Place in New York. Since that time, she has been performing at various clubs in New York. In October 2005, her first album "SHOKO" was self-released. When Shoko first arrived in New York, she was exposed to a variety of different musical genres, such as Brazilian Bossa Nova, Afro-Samba, Jazz, Latin, North African, and Indian. Her music reflects this wide array of influences. Lyrically, her songs tell stories of love while her melodies blend Bossa, Samba, Blues, Jazz and pop. Her singing is completely instinctive, heartfelt and intuitive. Shoko has performed many artists including Cristiano Tiozzo, Daniela Schaechter, Dan Nimmer, Felipe Riveros, Jose Moura, Arnaldo Buzack, Leco Reis, Chris Michael, Andre Gismonti, Daria Milman, Hiromi Abe, and Soli.
