Kirkland has come a long way from the 3 piece pop punk outfit it started as nearly 4 years ago. Having seen 4 members(3 drummers and one guitarist) come and go, the original two members, Kirk Spielman and Joey Hume, along with co-lead vocalist of three years Sarah Duffy and keyboard player of the last year Marcus Cox, now have a mature sound and bigger hopes and plans than the band has ever had. Being from a small town two hours west of Chicago, Kirkland knows how hard it is to break into a scene as an outsider and as a result have flown under the radar for some time. However, with an independently released EP in mid 2006, over 120 shows played each year for the last three years, a month long DIY tour in 2006, lots midwest touring, and a showcase at SXSW Music Festival in 2007, Kirkland has broken into the Chicago scene and built a vast fan base. After receiving lots of advice from industry insiders and bands that they have befriended and shared the stage with(Self Against City, Hit The Lights, Hellogoodbye, Houston Calls, Envy on the Coast, A Change of Pace, Set Your Goals, to name a few), the members have learned a lot, and are determined to push their unique form of indie pop music on the ever so unstable and changing music biz. The four members and their new drummer are currently working in the studio on their first full length album. The album is going to sound as if Bryce Avery from the Rocket Summer, Mae, and Shiny Toy Guns started a side project and recruited Lenny Kravitz to rock lead guitar. This is definitely a band you want to see live with an album to rival your favorites in the summer of 2008.
