About Me
Born in Battle Creek,Michigan,and raised in a very musical family,Terry Townson started playing trumpet at the age of 10,and already the next year he was working weekends with his grandparents doing gospel tent revivals around the State! Attending high school in St.Petersburg,Florida,he won the West Coast Jazz Festival's "Soloist of the Year" Award,an award which granted him a scholarship to Towson State College. Over the years,he's toured all over the world with a myriad of acts. You can hear him,as well as his horn arrangements,on many albums. He's appeared on numerous TV specials and telecasts,including "Late night with Conan O'Brien" and "Austin City Limits". For many years,Terry was the trumpet player in the Delbert McClinton Band,and he's played on several DMC albums,including the Grammy Award winning album "Nothing Personal". He also has playing and arranging credits on numerous Grammy nominated albums with other artists,and he has recorded and/or performed with artists like The Allmann Brothers Band,Marcia Ball,Ray Benson,Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown,Ray Charles,Steve Cropper,Joe Ely,John Hiatt,Hal Ketchum,B.B.King,Jerry Lee Lewis,Lyle Lovett,Delbert McClinton,Lee Roy Parnell,Kenny Rogers,Carla Thomas & Rufus Thomas,to mention a "few"! ;-) Since 2003,Terry and his wife,Valerie,has lived in Vancouver,Canada,where Terry continues his musical journey as trumpet player in the Colin James Band. He's currently working on a solo album,and here on MySpace you can listen to some samples.
