Richie Macs association with the wheels of steel has spanned more than Twenty Five years. He started DJing on Reggae Sound Systems in the late 70s playing a cross section of Reggae in its various guises, and, music that is now commonly known as Rare Groove. Owing to the popularity of Sound Systems in those days, Richie carried on playing right through the 80s, remaining on the cutting edge of Soul & Reggae music. In the late 80s, the big Soul Sound Systems such as Good Times, Rappatack and Mastermind & Soul II Soul started taking soul music into the West End club venues. Now, under the increasing musical influence of things like Norman Jays Shakeandfingerpop and Giles Petersons Sunday Jazz Sessions @ Dingwalls, Richies repertoire started leaning more heavily towards the Funk, Jazz & Boogie side of music. My West End Club sessions began at the Soho Theatre Club in 1991, with a session called Do It To It, which saw me team up with Boogie Boys Lloyd and Clayeon. We focused on hard-edged funk, Jazz Fusion and Boogie Tunes. The successful club night enjoyed further stints at the Cask & Glass and The Wag Club. This unique blend of grooves across the rarer side of the spectrum soon attracted the attention of other DJs who were into this type of groove. In the mid 90s, myself and The Boogie Boys teamed up with the Funkapolitan DJs to form The Underground Solution. The resulting Bless the Funk, Say it Loud and Shake it Loose gigs enjoyed a five year stint at venues such as Gossips, The Iceni and Bar Rumba, with further sessions with Club Nucleus @ The Tudor Rose, which has seen major live performances from acts such as Roy Ayers and Light of the World. The recent La Guarida & Inspiracion Tenerife projects in Tenerife and a Five year residency @ Sound Republic in Leicester Square gave me a chance to delve more into Neo Soul (as it is now called) and the very prominent Nu Jazz sound inspired by Kevin Beadle, Rainer Truby, Jazzanova & Co.I also recently enjoyed a two year stint at Soul 24/7 Radio with my "Bless the Funk" show and more recently Ramjam Radio as well as supporting live acts at Jazz Caf.. such as Will Downing & Mica Paris. This has been the latest step in bringing my style and passion to those who like to groove.A SLIDE SHOW OF - RICHIE MAC'S TOP 100 "OLD SCHOOL STEPPAS"...James Brown
