About Me

Smart, scrappy, serious, and sweet all at the same time. Student. Avid reader. Former professional musician, and published writer. Down to earth, driven, content and confident.

My Interests

the classics, etymology, history (it's all about the romans baby), anything written by thomas sowell, politics, movies with a point and a plot, making people happy, laugh, smile, avoiding popular culture as much as i can.

I'd like to meet:

I am interested in meeting people who are intellectual, kind, and in possesion of a fully funtioning moral compass.

Music:

phillip glass' akhnaten (did i spell it right?), radiohead OK Computer et.al, PJ Harvey (everything by her), beethoven, kronos quartet white man sleeps, ricky lee jones (where do i start...), rem (first three albums), the smiths hatfull of hollow, the cars (first two albums), soul coughing, karen carpenter (what a sweet voice), 10cc, the beach boys (especially pet sounds), queen, outkast, macy gray, al green, stevie wonder (when stevie was funky), bowie, joan osbourne (damn...what an underated singer!), basehead (what happend to that guy! "2000 brain cells ago.."), fiona, martha davis (from the motels...what a great voice!), buckley, moog cookbook (the hotel california cover was brilliant!) etc...i'll add more as i think of 'emstuff i HATE:thug rock aka: limp bizkit, insane clown posse, basically music for the last days of the empire; you know, music for barbarians who use "don't" when they should use the word "doesn't"...rap music: i hate most of it, except there are moments. why? most of it pre-fab producer-driven music without any vision, or intelligence. it is music for the illiterate by the illiterate...come on..thnk about it...can ANY of it compare to stevie wonder? or the temtations? or the amazing writing "chops" of smokey? nope...i rest my case...natalie merchant, becuase she bleets like a sheep, michael stipe, becuase although rem put out a couple records i really liked, he has turned into a caricature of himself, and takes himself wayyyy to seriously as an "artiste'" beyonce, i hate her because she is a very mediocre singer, and she has about the most tacky tasteless outfit on whenever and where ever. she has NO style. britney spears because, well, you're supposed to hate her right? i also hate christina aguilara because her voice is quite shrill in her upper range, and image wise she looks like a stripper, also, can you say "pitch correction galor?"...when i think of anyone else to rip apart, i'll add them to the list along with my biting sumary of thier talent, or rather, thier lack thereof...

Movies:

i liked to many movies to name, but i generally like movies with a plot, a point, and that make me think...

Television:

if and when i ever watch tv i watch things like c-span, or the discovery channel, i also watch the history channel as long as there isn't anything on there about hitler (how many programs can they air on hitler?). I have NEVER watched and episode of "friends" and i generally find network tv to have socio-political agendas that are transparent and trite, besides it's also just plain boring...

Books:

where do i start? well, i am currently reading a book called "the chrisanthamum and the sword" it is a book on japanese culture, and quite fascinating...

Heroes:

john quincy adams... my favorite american president...
