Ariana Afghanistan Television has been the premiere source of Afghan related localand international news since 1989, serving the Afghan community in the UnitedStates. On July 1, 2006, we initiated our first 24 hour broadcast to North America,Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. This is an exciting venture for ournetwork as it provides us with a new venue to connect both America with Afghanistanand the Afghans with the world.Our aim is to transform a culture of guns and warlordism into a culture of peacewhere human rights and freedoms are respected. The intent is not to provide theright answers, but to pose the right questions. One of our main objectives is topromote democracy and insure that values of dignity, equality and justice areincorporated into this infant democratic process. We specifically want to highlightthe involvement of women in all spheres of political, economic and social life. Ourcoverage will allow us to bring about positive social change by way of dialogue,debate, and education, rather than the rule of the gun.
What is significant here is that we will be able to reach families in the mostremote parts of Afghanistan. This will not only give us the opportunity to educateand guide the people of Afghanistan in new directions, but also fight fundamentalismand terrorism. Many of these Afghans have never been out of the country and havenever had access to education while living in the mountains and in the valleys of Afghanistan.They are the most susceptible to being conditioned and fall into thetrap of terrorist groups, unless we use this medium to provide them with educationand open their minds and hearts.On behalf of all my colleagues here at Ariana Afghanistan Television, I personallylike to thank you, our loyal viewers, for your continuous support.
