Sorry I haven't been on much recently, I've had my op & feel much better, thanks for everyones support through all this, I'm at present doing my house up getting it ready to sell, but I've had a few bookings come in so I'm playing when I can, I'll try to update this more when I can, in the meantime if you want more info check out my website www.andr0m3da.com
How It All Began lol
I walked up to the owner of the Honey Club, Brighton one night in 1996 while he was DJing at his afterparty & said "Can I have a go?" he gave me a quick run over what the mixer does & off I went.
The next day they held a DJ Competition & I entered borrowing the owners vinyl, picking out all the good dance tunes at the time. 11 other DJ's entered, all with at least 4 years experience behind them, I came 4th, they rated me for playing to the crowd & doing simple but flawless mixes.
Started off playing Drum & Bass & ran a night at The Catfish Club, Brighton for a few months, the venue was small & I only just about covered costs so didn't keep it up, then switched to Dance & House. DJ'd as a hobby really played in Honey Club, Brighton a few times but wasn't booked, just the odd after party.
Moved to Plymouth in May 1997 & had the honour *cough* of playing a new years eve do at big pub there & was exstatic when I was asked by a big group of people to play the latest dance tunes or they're leaving lol. Still kept it as a hobby but in February 2002 was asked to play the main set at The Q Club in Worthing, hit the crowd with a banging Warp Brothers & similar set, the dancefloor went mental, the resident DJ spat his dummy out & asked me to play "more uplifting" to which I nodded & ignored hehe, a clubber ran up to the DJ Box, gurned at me, stuck his thumb in the air & shouted "f**king quality" before running back to the dancefloor. This was when I decided to always play for the crowd NOT the promoters :P
Gave it a break but carried on raving. Then August 2005 I went to support a friend of mine who was playing her 1st set ever for Premonitions Synthetic Crew , to find her panicing & shaking uncontrollably which resulted in her mixing skills evaporating. I offered to go back to back with her, cleared it with the promoters & played Hardcore live for the 1st time in 3 & a half years, the DJ left me to finish her set & I was asked to come back again and play at the Free Hardcore party in October & then again in November.
After another short break, I decided to make a go of it in May 2006, went back to the promoter of Synthetic Crew, Dom J & asked for another set & was given one June 16th in the back room of The Candy Store , wasn't a successful night as everyone was in the main room for Trance Generators lol but it secured me another set on the Scott Brown night in the main room for August 11th.
Played a couple of private partys in the meantime, The TQ Crew Party in Newton Abbott on 23rd June & DSI ICP Party near Bradford on 15th July.
Miss Special K let me play at the
Totally 'Ardcore after party @Castro's, Bristol on 4th August
Then came the big night
Premonitions Synthetic Crew @ The Candy Store, Plymouth presenting the GOD of Hardcore Mr Scott Brown , packed out the venue & gave me a chance to shine, the bigger the crowd the better I play. I was given the last set of the night & it paid off, the 10 demo CD's I'd brought with me were snatched up during the set, the DJ box was surrounded by hands wanting to shake mine & a queue of clubbers were waiting for me after my set, finally the turning point of my career.
Played @ Reactiv8 alongside Gammer, C.L.S.M, Marc Smith, MC Smiley, Overlode, & MC Whizzkid @ The Cooperage, Plymouth on 6th October which has secured regular sets at the venue for me in the future & in discussions with MC Juicy (female hardcore MC) about an event in Birmingham called Girlpower, strictly female hardcore DJ's & MC's. Will be playing again for Premonitions Synthetic Crew next year & I'll be teaming up with the gorgeous new talented female MC Tasha y to form a double act in the near future.
In 4 months I've managed to make an impression on the SouthWest's hardcore scene, after whacking my demo out & getting good reviews, bookings are coming in, but with money short transport is stopping me from going further, quicker.
So basically I will play anywhere, anytime, for nothing as long as my transport is arranged lol, it's tough being a female vinyl DJ lugging records boxes about on trains (when I can afford them) so if you want to book me, petrol money & free entry for the people taking me or someone to come and get me & take me home is all I ask for :D
