Originally there was the
Skinbat Scramble, which
Nicki finally joined in 1986 after 2 years of invitations......So it was until
Nifty Eagu & the Glo-Pilots,
Nicki Sarzi sang on their first album, "Last/First". Then the Skinbat Scramble's unreleased back-catalogue of 'demos' began to be released, and during a year long Glo-Pilots hiatus, Nicki and Nifty linked up with
John (JJ) Johnson, erstwhile last drummer of the Skinbat Scramble's first era. They went to Cryptic Studios in Leeuwarden, Holland and recorded what was to become
Coochie's Bream first release, finishing it off in the now vanished Red Studios near Rochester with the great Lord Waldorf engineering. The Glo-Pilots then returned and "Glo-Balisation" was recorded at The Granary in Lamberhurst, Nicki's voice becoming a central feature of the band. Then the Skinbat Scramble was briefly re-constituted for a second era with the Glo-Pilots' rhythm section in order to get a number of unfinished songs recorded properly for
Vol. 5 (The Lost Book of the Psychedelic Pirates).
The Ghost Lilacs, is a collection of songs put together, with a more acoustic and sensitive feel, it has most lyrics written by
Nicki Sarzi.Three of the tracks feature the amazing
Carl Gent on sitar, (of ex-
Mumm-ra fame and presently leading
The Old Dolphin Brigade !).
Acoustic slots were performed at the
Nifty Nights and
Ludmar Explorations all at
The Forum, in Tunbridge Wells.
.... And so The Ghost Lilacs were born...
