Jules first foray into the world of music came in the late 70's when he first heard "Rappers Delight" and was shocked into how you could make a record using other peoples music. The seed of love for music of all types had been sewn, but it took until the summer of 1985 for things to happen. Having been asked to stick a couple of records on whilst the DJ went for a drink, the seed of music planted in the late 70's started to germinate.Soon Jules was covering most sessions for this DJ, bored with playing records one after the other, he started to experiment by creating different sounds with early "scratching" having heard a DJ Cheese. This was early 1986, and following from that Jules started experimenting with mixing, and this was done with reasonable success. Then Jules got a gig in the same venue as Phl Dockerty (The Commission, Futureshock) and that was it. "I was blown away by Phils mixing & scratching, the car was for sale the next day, and within a week had been traded for a pair of turntables and a pair of drumsticks - cheers for the tip Phil!!)"The following few years were spent learning a craft which set Jules apart from other DJ's. Whilst others were mixing only dance music, Jules was experimenting with mixing old records as well as the latest dance tunes creating pretty much a completely mixed night, and an air of uncertainty as to what was playing next. This led to work at the Crazy Horse in Nuneaton, a brief flirtation with THAT dancing rabbit, and the chance to work alongside some great live acts also including the Human League and Bad Manners. During this time, the venue was awarded Midlands Club of the Year in 1991 & 1992.In '95 Jules first venture into production led to him working with RAW, a Doncaster based group where he was involved with post-production on the track "The base of the song was really strong, but lacked a definitive hook", so after a bit of plagarism form Lionel Richie's "all Night Long" the track "Do Me" was born, and appearances for him & the band at Clothes Show Live, BBC Radio 1 roadshow, and Party In The Park followed in 1996.Having decided to remain with commercial DJ'ing, a few wilderness years followed until a call from old school friend and DJ Shane Brown offered him the chance to return to bigger venues. This led to a residency on Birmingham's famous Broad Street with Brannigans, a company that Jules still works with to this day, although not in a commercial DJ capacity.Being moved around the company from Birmingham, this led to Stockport and an introduction to DJ Jon Fitz (Herd & Fitz // Bodyrockers) and a love of the funkier side of dance music. The Thursday Funk Sessions that started after their meeting became the busiest night in town (thanks mainly to Jon Fitz - legend) & a new chapter in the career of Jules. "This was another shocker for me as to how much I'd been left behind. I'd never seen another DJ with such energy & enthusiasm as Fitzy, and his mixing was off the scale, working with Fitzy certainly made me work harder and become more of a technical DJ"In July 2006 Jules started his own night - Fresh N Funky @ Brannigans in Chester, a night that he still runs to this day, an eclectic mix of funky house, old school, and classic disco. It's a halfway house between the Thursday Funk Sessions in Stockport and the halcyon days of the Crazy Horse and is without question the biggest night in Chester, playing to over 1400 people every Saturday. "Get yourselves there - it's awesome with 1400 of Cheshires sexiest people"Away from live work, Jules has also dipped into the world of commercial radio, having presented on Anker Radio, Lutterworth FM, Whittle FM, BBC WM, and BRMB. Currently Jules is presenting a dance classics show called THE SUNDAY SESSIONS on Ashby Radio every Sunday night from 7-10pm.Nowadays, live work is limited to Saturday nights with the success of Fresh N Funky. Away from the music, family in number 1 with him with his 2 children and his partner Jirinka. An unhealthy obsession (an expensive one too) with 1970's sports cars takes up much spare time also. www.asoc.co.ukOver the years, amongst the venues played areSilver Sword - Coventry // Tally Ho - Coventry // Belair - Nuneaton // Faradays - Nuneaton // Punch & Judy - Nuneaton // Crazy Horse Nuneaton // Zanzibar - Nuneaton // Maddisons - Nuneaton // Liquid - Nuneaton // Aero - Birmingham // Wildmoor - Stratford // Vision - Corby // Jimmy Deans - Leicestershire // Mirage - Leamington Spa // Chicago Rock - Nuneaton // Barracuda - Birmingham // Brannigans - Birmingham // Brannigans - Crawley // Brannigans - Luton // Brannigans - Warrington // Brannigans - Reading // Brannigans - Blackpool // Brannigans - Stockport // Brannigans - Manchester // Brannigans - Sheffield // Brannigans - Bristol // Brannigans - Chester // also Jules has worked in Ireland, Ibiza, and various other venues guesting around the UK...
