Derwin "Big D" Perkins was born in New Orleans LA. His career began in church like most other great musicians. It wasn't long after, that his slick and uncompromising tasteful guitar style was noticed by some of New Orleans prominant acts. Big D has been blessed to be able to record and share the stage with artist such as the late great Raymond Myles, Jon Cleary, Davell Crawford, N'Dea Davenport, Snooks Eaglin, The Neville Brothers, Collage, Gary Brown, Dia-mon, Anthony Bailey, Rockin Doopsie, Master P, Lil Romeo, Juvenile, Choppa, Phillip Manuel, Micheal Ward, Marva Wright, just to name a few. Most artist would agree that Big D melodic lines leaves a memorable impression on a composition. He credits his uncle for him starting to play the guitar and God for his talent.
