2006 NC NAACP Youth & College Division
Youth Council of the Year

Received at the 2006 NC NAACP State Convention!
Pictures are NOW in new blog!
The Duplin County NAACP Youth Council is a member of the vast network of NAACP Youth Councils, Junior Youth Councils, High School Chapters, and Young Adult Councils. It is compiled of 400 youth councils, and 30,000 young people like us. We are an active member of the NAACP Youth & College Division, whose headquaters are in Baltimore, MD. We are also active in the Southeast Region (V) & NC Coference NAACP Youth & College Division headquartered in Atlanta and Raleigh respectively. Last year we were named the largest youth unit in the State of North Carolina. We are constantly holding membership drives to gain memberships. We still are the largest youth council in North Carolina, representing with almost 200 members. We have traveled as a group to the 2005 (96th) NAACP National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, (62nd) 2005 NC NAACP Conference of Branches in Greensboro, NC, (54th) 2006 Southeast Region NAACP Civil Rights Advocacy Training Institute in Charlotte, NC, and to the (63rd) 2006 NC NAACP Conference of Branches in Goldsboro, NC.
The NAACP Youth and College Division celebrates its 70th anniversary this year and is being celebrated all over the nation. At the urging of Youth Delegate Juanita E. Jackson at the 1935 St. Louis Convention, the NAACP Youth & College Division was created in March 1936 when the NAACP Board of Directors passed a new resolution creating it. Jackson became the first youth secretary in 1936. Youth Councils fought throughout the Civil Rights Era and are still figthing today for equality all over the board. Join the NAACP, help the fight today!!!
Vice President Erika Stroughton stands to ask Ms. Dora Jernigan, Duplin County Schools, Director of High Schools, a question about the offerings of honors and AP Courses in Duplin County's four high schools.
She may be in 6th place for Mother of the Year, but she's our number one ADVISOR!
