Yang is a French instrumental rock quartet which compositions combine guitar counterpoints with a powerful rock pulse.
The group has been founded in 2002 and released its first CD "A Complex Nature" on Cuneiform Records in September 2004.
During February 2005, Stéphane Bertrand and Julien Vecchié have been replaced by Nico Gomez on bass et Laurent James on guitar and Yang started performing with this lineup.
The 2nd album "Machines" will be released during 2008.
Yang is the solar principle of the Tao, Yin being the lunar principle,
alternative and indissociable.
Yang is the light, the mountain, strength, heat, spontaneity,
superficiality, opening.
Yin is darkness, the valley, sweetness, cold, thought, depth, inner.
Traditionally, Yang is masculine, Yin is feminine.
Yang is a masculine group, but its music cares of alternative between both
principles, no man can be wholly Yang, no woman wholly Yin.
Yin and Yang melt ,complete themselves, follow themselves in each of us
and in the universe. Both are obvious but of complex natures.
Simplification is a lure, easiness is a lure, freedom is a lure.
Real life is complex.
Complexity lies in relationships, dependences, interdependences, desires, mechanisms, processes etc.
Complex mechanisms are everywhere, even within obviousness.
Everything tending to simplify leads to a loss.
As trying to avoid complexity, one locks oneself in restricted surroundings from which it will be more and more difficult to escape.
From spare parts, complexity of combinations, interactions and interrelationships create (« give life to ») some kinds of machines, mechanisms life gifted, often self-sufficing, self-managed, and governing rules of the universe.
These machines can be viewed as assemblies :
Assemblies of inert elements and moved by external power of course, but also assemblies of persons, ideas, wills or desires, of concrete or abstract elements, assemblies of notes, rhythms, sounds, assemblies of machines…
These elements mix themselves, joint themselves, pull or push themselves, burn themselves inside destruction machines, oppression machines, degradation machines, in case of government machines for example, but also expression machines, desire machines, contesting machines, thinking machines as groups, societies or social systems*.
The title of the first Yang album : « a complex nature », did not express any intention of complication within music, rather assertion that every thought, every philosophy, every art is « by nature » complex.
In « Machines », the main idea is the same, but putting emphasize on mechanic aspect of interactions in every concrete or abstract process.
