About Me

The band (originally from Odesa, Ukraine) was formed in February, 2000 when Olga Pulatova (piano, vocal, lyrics) and Yelena Voynarovskaya (guitar, vocal, lyrics) started to rehearse in a home studio. March 8, 2000 is considered the official birthday of the band when the third member, Yulia Zemlyanaya (flute), joined the band. As for the name, everyone interprets it differently. For some the word 'fleur' is a French translation for 'flower', for some it is Baudelaire's 'Flowers of Evil', others think of music... But actually the Russian word "Fl?ur" has a remarkable meaning - 'a cover of mystery'. Fl?ur's debut took place on March 17, 2000 at the 'Atmosphere' night programme in the House of the Actor in Odessa. Dmitry Vekov is the author of the programme, and now remains an active participant of the band. In May, 2000 Fl?ur was joined by Yekaterina Serbina (cello), in August, 2000 - Alexey Tkachevsky (percussion), in January, 2001 - Vitaly Didyk (double-bass), and in autumn of 2001 - Alexey Dovgalyov (keyboards). It is a mystery how the modern structure was formed, but it is known that Yekaterina Serbina's leaving wasn't saddened with quarrels among the musicians. For three years of existence the band has given hardly more than ten concerts, but each of them represented a brand new program. At their live performances Fl?ur follows some interesting principles: new songs are sooner or later included into a new record; new record are released due to the desire to make new songs accessible to listeners; the mission is to deliver the songs to interested listeners. Interest criteria are defined by listeners only; the band doesn't apply popular methods to attract mainstream listeners; Fl?ur's records are sold at every live performance; sponsors are not advertised during concerts; tickets' price depends on the situation; every concert is a mystery. Many attempts to attribute Fl?ur to any specific genre, whether it be neoclassic, dream-pop, gothic or ethereal, ended with the band's own definition - cardio-wave. The French label 'Prikosnovenie' specifies similarity of Fl?ur's music to such artists as Cocteau Twins and Bel Canto. Fl?ur has released four official albums: 'Prikosnovenie', 'Magic', 'Siyanie', 'Everything Is out of Control' and two unofficial - 'Almost Live' (record from a concert on June 17, 2000 in the Odessa House of the Actor) and 'Heart' (record from a concert on November 10, 2000 in the same place).FROM http://www.fleur.kiev.ua/
