In an industry full of gimmicks, marketing schemes, and publicity stunts, it can be hard to tell what’s real and who’s fronting. “A lot of niggas get carried away by what they see on TV,†says Starrz, “This shit aint a game, YaHuRdâ€. The “Son of Fire†has been through it. But rather than dwell on his past he’s all about seeing the future, and the future is him.Born Jaware Cole, to East Coast Reggae legend Ichelle Cole and Baltimore Street Legend Stanley “Fire†Cole, Starrz had a unique upbringing, from the tender age of 2 he was always heavily influenced by both music and the ills of the ultra grimey Baltimore streets. But what also distinguishes him from most of these rappers out is his heritage of 100% Jamaican decent, the culture is embedded in him and even reflects itself in his music, persona, even his dreads. He was raised mostly by his mother from the time his father; known, respected, and feared as “Fire†in Baltimore’s notorious Park Heights neighborhood, was convicted on Federal RICO charges in 1985. Starrz first got his taste of the illegal life at the age of 12 getting arrested at the age 14, “I was just young and thuggin, doin whatever to make a dolla, feel meâ€After short bid Starrz came out with his game face on, “Music had always been in my blood, I just never let the world know until I felt it was rightâ€. He began recording, showing much promise and making a name for his self on the local scene. Eventually he would run into his long time recording partner Demarco. Together the two would make a name for themselves both inside and outside of the Baltimore area. Together the duo would work with nationally known acts as The Souldiggaz, Star Cut Productions, Styles P of the Lox, and Missy Elliot.Unfortunately, Starrz still had some of his old ways in him, and while Demarco would return to his native Jamaica where he is currently a touring star on the Dancehall and Reggae scene, Starrz fell deep back into the streets of his native Baltimore City eventually catching a string of charges ranging from guns, drugs, and a vest after an apparent setup by the police between ’04 and ’05. “I was blessed to make it out that situation with what I got, now I’m re- focused and it’s on.â€Armed with a confident delivery, several trade mark flows, and a swagger that distinguishes him from any other rapper out it’s apparent that “The Beast from the Middle East†aka “Son of Fire†aka “That Ghetto Ass Nigga,†Starrz is headed for stardom. Right now he is working 12 to 14 hours a day in the studio as well as consulting very heavily with music video director Mike Taylor. With heartfelt street songs such as “It is What it is†and club catchy hooks such as the infectious “Do it Wellâ€, Starrz is ready to showcase is musical diversity and dexterity.
