About Me

SugarBear
Woof, I've come a long way in a short time. I was a stray, picked up by BARC in early January 2004. On January 4, someone from Special Pals (www.specialpalsshelter.org), a no kill shelter, found me there...thank goodness! BARC puts down 90% of their animals because they do not have funding to spay/neuter them, so I consider myself very lucky to have been found and thought to be adoptable. When they got me back to Special Pals, they ran tests on me and found out I was positive for heartworms, and put me on a waiting list for treatment. In the mean time, my mom found me and was visiting me every Saturday (and I mean EVERY Saturday...I think she loved me from the start!). I made it through treatment and went up for adoption in April 2004. Although lots of people were interested in me, my mom was volunteering there so she had first dibs. On April 18, 2004 my new mom and dad picked me up and took me home with them! I've been a spoiled pup ever since!

I was adopted 3/17/07 from S.A.F.E. House, a rescue organization that picked me up from the pound. I was heartworm positive so I surely would have been put down if they hadn't thought I was adoptable. They put me through heartworm treatment and took care of me until my new family adopted me. The vet thinks that I am about 6 years old and I weigh 6 pounds.

The Dog Whisperer of course!

Heroes:

First and foremost, the great people at Special Pals and S.A.F.E. House for giving me a chance to find a family that would love me forever AND for treating my heartworms. My mom and dad for the unconditional love, attention, and chicken! My aunt Kelli for always thinking of me and coming over to play when mom and dad go out. Grand-mom, grand-dad, and uncle Ron for spoiling me when mom and dad go play on the beach in Cancun (why don't you guys take me with you? You know I love the beach!) And all of my calm submissive doggie friends that run and play with me! Woofs, licks, and tail-wags to you all!
